Catherine Bradley – The Really Loud House
By: Jennifer Vintzileos
Q) Tell us a little bit about how you landed your role on the show “The Really Loud House” and the character you play.
A) This is a crazy story. So, my younger sister, Aubin, got the audition for Lucy Loud. When Aubin got invited to a producer session, my mom noticed on the email invite that they were still looking for some roles including Luan. My mom thought I was perfect for Luan except it said they were looking for someone fifteen years old and I was only thirteen years old at the time, and they almost never cast younger kids to play older kids. It’s almost always the opposite. So, my mom called my manager and agent, and they pitched me to the casting agent, Shery Levine, and I am so thankful she gave me the opportunity to send in a self-tape. I only had a day turnaround, and I had to do scenes with a puppet, and I had never done ventriloquism. I used my flying pig puppet with huge, long eyelashes. So, I guess they liked my tape. I then got a producer session next and got to meet the director Johnathan Judge. He had me run the scenes and do a ton of improvisation. I heard him laughing a lot and he was so nice. They he made me imitate Mr. Coconuts, Luan’s alter-ego puppet, and that was a lot of fun. The funniest part was they did not know Aubin and I were sisters. And the most amazing part was that both Aubin and I got the job! What were the odds of that? Two real sisters playing sisters. It was so exciting!
So, I play Luan Loud and Mr. Coconuts. Luan is a funny, loving, silly and sometimes goofy teenager who is obsessed with stand-up comedy. She is a comedian extraordinaire, the ultimate prankster, a master of disguises, a ventriloquist, and a total theatre geek. Her pranks can be extreme, and she sometimes can border on lunatic when she loses control with these pranks!
Q) What kinds of conversations did you have with directors Jonathan Judge and Carlos González to help you in getting into character?
A) I have been so lucky to work with such incredible directors on this show such as Jonathan Judge . . .He is the just the best . . . and Carlos Gonzalez, Phill Lewis, David Kendall and Melissa Kosar. Working with each of them has been such a fun experience and I have learned so much from them as they all bring a slightly different perspective to my character. I also get to work a lot with our Showrunner and writer extraordinaire, Tim Hobert. Between working with the director of the episode, Jonathan, Tim and our on-set acting coach, Anthony, they all give me a lot of input and ideas. I also spend a lot of time thinking about each scene and making sure I am completely in character before they call “action.” You never know how many takes you will get with a scene so I try to make sure every take I do that I would be proud of and “bring it” from the very beginning.
Q) In what ways do you feel you are like your character and in what ways do you differ?
A) Well, we are actually a lot of like, but we do have our differences. For one, I don’t typically pie people in the face or use whoopee cushions on a regular basis, but I have been known to play a practical joke or two. I also don’t have a puppet that I carry around with me all the time, but I do have a ton of stuffed animals that sometimes I give voices to. But, like me, Luan is a performer! Luan started her stand-up comedy career at eight years old, which was when I began my acting career. We are both happy people and love to make people laugh and entertain them. She is a comedian and I also LOVE doing comedy and impersonations. Most of all, Luan is real and doesn’t take herself too seriously. Luan is confident in herself and is not changing for anyone. Luan just loves to be silly and have fun. I really think young girls are going to love her and I hope Luan inspires everyone to just be themselves!
Q) What is it like working on a set full of kids around your own age?
A) It makes going to work each day so much more fun! Having lots of people to work with that are around the same age, older and younger makes for a lot of fun. I am never bored! Also, I am here with my sister Aubin, who is Lucy, on the show so that makes it easier to have family around. I have made such incredible friendships with the cast, crew, hair, makeup and costumes. We have really all bonded and become our own LOUD family!
Q) What has been one of your favorite moments about working on “The Really Loud House?”
A) One of my favorite moments was working on a scene with my sister, Aubin. I can’t share too much but let’s just say she may have given Mr. Coconuts a run for the money! And of course, we all know Mr. Coconuts is the star of the show. (Just kidding!) Anyway, we were doing this scene together and I just looked at her and was like, “WOW, she is amazing.” I was so proud of her. I really hope we get to work on more scenes and storylines in the future! Another great moment was getting to work with Vicki Lawrence! She is one of the greatest comedians of all time and started at a young age like me. To be able to work with someone of her caliber was a moment I will never forget!
Q) Which episodes are you excited for fans to watch?
A) This a tough one because they are all so good! One that definitely comes in mind is when you learn some new talents of Luan, master of disguise……, (SPOILER ALERT) and there is another episode where audiences will get to see a more vulnerable side of Luan. Luan is usually always joking and being funny, wanting to make people laugh and be happy so a lot of times you see the “Performer Luan.” In this episode you see another side of Luan and I love the message of this episode for young girls of being true to being you! I hope this is not another SPOILER ALERT.
Q) You are a part of social media. Are you looking forward to fans reaching out and interacting with you about the show?
A) Yes, I have been part of social media since I began my career around nine years old, of course with my parent’s permission. I absolutely love it when my fans comment on my posts and do posts and edits of me. I also love the fan art! I try and look at every comment and post and every edit by the fans and try to repost in my story and comment as much as I can. So, if there are fans not following me yet, they can follow me on instagram at @catherinebradley_ and on tiktok at @catherinebradleyy
Q) What do you think it is about this new series that will make it a fast fan favorite?
A) It is funny, and we all love to laugh! Also, what I think makes this show so unique is that we have a built-in fan base from the animated cartoon. But with the live-action series the kids are going to love it, but the parents are going to also. Family time is so important and there is not enough of it anymore. This is a TV show that both parents and their kids are going to find super funny and laugh a lot together. This is just not a kids show!!
Q) Aside from “The Really Loud House,” are there any upcoming projects that you can share with us?
A) You can currently see me on Showtime’s “City on a Hill” as Julietta Caysen. I got to work with Matt Del Negro and play his daughter and he was so much fun to work with and learn from. I have a few other projects that I am working on that I should be able to announce hopefully very soon! I am a singer also and have some stuff in the works there as well. And, of course, I may have some more stuff in store with the “Loud House” family and Nickelodeon!
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I LOVE YOU! You are the absolute BEST fans in the world. The support I have received from the fans who have followed me from the beginning of my career and from my new “Loud House” fan family is so amazing. They are so supportive, and kind and they are people and kids from all over the world! So, thank you to all my fans for always being there for me and helping me to achieve my dreams. It really does mean a lot to me. We are only just getting started!!
