Chloé Morgan – Stars
By: Alejandra Gil M
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) It is pop/dance music that carries uplifting melodies and messages with an 80’s influence in the funky basslines and synth chords.
Q) Your new single “Stars” out now (produced by Benjamin McCrary with additional production by Tyler McCrary) feels like straight disco. What was the writing process like, did you have the lyrics or the music first?
A) I actually wrote this song with Ben seven years ago. Ben created the production foundation first and then gave a topline melody for me to write the lyrics to. “You made the stars ignite” was the lyric Ben gave me and then the lyrics flowed from there and other melodies. I remember going onto the rooftop by our studio and writing the topline lyrics outside with my headphones on and asking God to give me a message from heaven and then it just came through. We revisited this song at the beginning of 2021 and gave the production an update with additional production from Tyler.
Q) “Stars” begins with your voice acapella and quickly morphs into a grooving and funky bass dance track. It’s a track that is perfect for those searching for meaning and substance in EDM or those who just want to get down on the dance floor. Was that your goal?
A) I would say as an artist my message is different to a lot of messages out there. The lyrics I write come from a true expression of who I am and to offer my audience uplifting music that speaks truth and love. My goal is to uplift and inspire, which I hope the audience feels listening to “Stars.”
Q) You said: “This song comes from the perspective of calling to attention the one that’s greater.” “It’s about the awakening that no matter what culture or religion, there is only one Creator at the end of the day and it’s time to unify.” Why is that important to you?
A) It’s important because we are in a world today that’s broken and needs so much healing. Being against each other and each other’s belief systems is not going to help. The only way we will heal is if we accept and love one another back into wholeness, which is going to take us unifying to a place where we can look and see each other as family. We are all children of God whether we know it or not.
Q) The song is described as a way to amplify the connection between humans and our esoteric relationship with the cosmos. What do you hope people take away from it?
A) I believe that true connection with spirit and Creator is the key to freedom. My hope is that this record will liberate the listeners and call our spirit man to attention, activating faith and joy.
Q) The lyrics of this track feel like a very personal metaphor on hitting rock bottom. Has there been any feedback online that has stood out to you about “Stars?”
A) The song was written just before that happened for me. The main feedback I have received is how this record has made people feel uplifted and lots have been calling it a “summer banger!”
Q) “Stars” comes after your 80s/90s themed ‘Celebration for Life’ Livestream Show in June—a show dedicated in loving memory of Azalylia Diamond Cain. How did that come to be?
A) I began creating online shows at the end of 2020. My grandmother passed at the beginning of 2021, which inspired the name and message even more “Celebration for Life.” It is all about uplifting the community through these challenging times. As I was producing the second show, I came upon a story about Azaylia the day she passed away. After researching her story, it touched me so deeply, I was in tears every day. The team and I decided that the next show would revolve around helping children that are suffering. So, we reached out to Children’s Hospital, and they agreed to be in full support of the show.
Q) You moved to Vancouver merging your live vocals & instrumentation into DJ sets with genres from Dance, House, Funk, Soul, R&B, Hip Hop, Old School and original music. Creating something extraordinary and original, giving the audience an unparalleled music experience and won a Golden Owl Award for “Breakout DJ of The Year” in 2017. How do you feel that prepared you to get more exposure in the music industry?
A) I feel that winning that award gave me more credibility in the industry for bringing something very unique into the DJ scene. I was recognized not just as a regular DJ but as someone that was breaking out and making my way into bigger territories in the industry.
Q) You´ve shared the stage with artists like Beyonce, Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson. Do you have any future plans for a tour or any upcoming concerts?
A) Yes, absolutely and God willing. For now, I’m focusing on the steps it’s going to take to get there one day at a time.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I would love to collaborate with Calvin Harris, Pharrell [Williams] and Justin Bieber would be cool
Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of you and your music?
A) With all my heart, thank you for supporting me. This is a beautiful journey that’s about to unfold and I give my all to serve music that uplifts, heals and brings true connection through love and joy. The best is yet to come!
