Interviews
Chloe Perrin – Mary
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects you are working on?
A) I have two movies released this 2019 Halloween season, Itsy Bitsy and Mary – both horrors! My role in Itsy Bitsy was so fun to film and my title role of Mary in the movie Mary was also a blast. I am currently in post-production on a web-series called Charlie Tries. I play Charlie. Charlie is a mischievous and funny, goofy girl who is always exploring and trying new things. Her curiosity gets her in trouble all the time. I also am working on auditions for future projects and I am very happy Single Parents has returned for a second season.
Q) Please tell us about the movie Mary and about your character.
A) My role as Mary in the movie Mary is a favorite character of mine. I had the opportunity to show a broader range of emotions through this role, which I really enjoyed. So many roles that are offered to actresses my age do not have this depth, so it grabbed my attention when I got the opportunity to audition. The movie starts out with a family who buys a very old charter boat to start a business and they repair it before going out to sea…strange things begin to happen once they’re in open waters. My character is the youngest daughter in the family who witnesses, with everyone else, paranormal activity and hauntings while on board this ship. Let’s just say it…Well, it…AAAALLLL starts to get to her, like really get to her – and everyone else, too. Crew members go crazy and compasses and way finders don’t work! They have to escape, all while having NOWHERE to run.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the film?
A) After I read the script I fell in love with my character. She was sweet and spunky…with interesting, scary scenes to shoot. The movie sounded so thrilling and I was so excited to be cast with the rest of the amazing talent for Mary!
Q) What did you find challenging about this movie?
A) Michael Goi, the director, and the producers of the film made everything so easy. I am so to thankful for that! He is a wonderful director and was always very respectful to all of the cast and crew. The set was orderly, and we were all taken such great care of. I even had my own director’s chair with my character’s name on it. The chair was just my size, so I fit in it perfectly. Michael also has directed many other great things, such as “American Horror Story!” I learned so much working with him and hope to work with him again on future projects.
Q) Talk about working with iconic Gary Oldman.
A) Where do I start? I was STAR-STRUCK when I learned I would be in a movie with Gary Oldman! He did an incredible job on the set of Mary. He joked with people and made us all feel at ease. He even played games with me between shooting scenes!
Q) What were some of your favorite scenes to shoot?
A) My favorite scene to shoot in Mary would be the scene where I smash a glass on my sister’s face! The scene is shocking because this is way out of character for Mary, who is otherwise seemingly innocent. Stephanie Scott (who plays my big sister) and I laughed a lot in between shooting this scene, so we actually had a blast filming it. Another favorite scene is when I got to perform my own stunt. We were filming the scene where we are frantically trying to escape the horror and I jumped off the boat into the water in the bay area!
Q) What makes working on the show “Single Parents” so fun?
A) Having the opportunity to work with so many talented, kind people! I especially love to play with the other kids, who include Marlow Barkley (Sophie), Tyler Wladis (Graham), Devin Trey Campbell (Rory) and the twins Ella and Mia Allen (Amy and Emma)! The set is a very positive environment and I love my role as “Bunny Ears.”
Q) What can you tease in Season 2 of the show?
A) Well…if I tell you too much, it may spoil the fun. So, I don’t want to say anything right now. You will have to wait and stay tuned with us for Season 2 premiering on Wednesday, September 25th on ABC to find out!
Q) Do you prefer working in drama or comedy?
A) I enjoy drama and comedy, but my favorite stories to tell are from horror movie sets. During the filming of Itsy Bitsy I learned a lot about puppetry. The spider (who I nicknamed “Tickles” [yes, we were best friends on set]) is actually a puppet! Learning about puppetry was so cool.
