Chloe Rose – Guilty At 17

Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

A) I just finished a horror movie last November so it should be coming out in the September or November. People can look out for that. I’m also on “Rookie Blue” and a lot of other projects are Canadian based so I can’t really share just yet.

Q) We’ll be seeing you in the film Guilty At 17. What made you want to be a part of the project?

A) A good casting director in Canada got in touch with me and asked if I would be interested in coming into audition. They had me in mind for the part so they wanted me to just come in and do a quick read with them. I went in and they said they wanted me to play this part. It was really interesting because I have played the villain before, but it was villain with a soft side. So, playing a villain with no soft side was an interesting pull for me.

Q) Tell us the premise for the film and about your character.

A) The premise is that there is a young girl named Traci who has just moved to the area and starts a friendship with a popular girl at the high school, Devon. They find a friendship and Devon tells her that a teacher has sexually harassed her and that she doesn’t know how to report it. She thinks no one will believe her if she goes and speaks to the principal. Traci decides she is going to lie and say that she saw it happen so that Devon won’t be burdened by this awful situation. As everything unfolds, the situation becomes more and more dramatic than expected. Traci starts to see this darker side to Devon. As it unfolds, it becomes more and more dramatic and Traci starts to wonder if Devon has manipulated her into lying for other reasons.

Q) Was there anything you added to the role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?

A) Devon is really misguided, especially for a young girl. There is no light to her on paper. In the script, she is just plain old awful. I think that the most important part, for me, was to make sure that there was this element that the audience knew she didn’t come from a very supportive home. I tried to at least create some vulnerability to her rather than her just being this awful witch who emerged out of nowhere and being mean to people for no reason.

Q) Were you able to relate to Devon in any way?

A) No. I don’t particularly relate to her at all. I don’t come from a particularly rich family. I have a very loving mom and she has a neglectful father. We are very, very different people. I do have some empathy for her on some level, although, her actions and her choices aren’t particularly great. I’m not sure she is going to be liked very much.

Q) Was there instant chemistry when the cast began working together or did it take some time to develop?

A) The chemistry definitely came naturally. Erin [Sanders] is so fun to work with and her and I got along really well. So, having to fight at certain points was difficult because her and I got along so well. We would spend time in our hotel rooms and practice in between shooting because we had the time and liked spending time together. I felt very lucky to be a part of that. Vanessa Morgan and I actually have the same agent so we were friends prior to the film. So, getting to work with her was really exciting as well. It was really lovely and a great set to work on.

Q) What was it like working with director Anthony Lefresne?

A) He was very go-with-the-flow. He really took what we had in mind for the scene into consideration. He was very understanding. If there was something not working, he would pull us aside and kind of talk us through a particularly emotional scene. Mind you, the movie follows Traci (Erin) through this entire arc. So, he worked with me on some very specific scenes and we worked on Devon not completely being this ice queen down to the core. I’m not sure if it will come across on screen, but we definitely worked on that. Just like any other director, we collaborated and it was really wonderful.

Q) You are a part of social media. Are you looking forward to the instant feedback you’ll receive from fans during the film airing?

A) I’m so thrilled that everyone is excited for this movie! I wasn’t expecting that kind of feedback already from just the trailer. Hopefully, I will be live tweeting throughout the premiere. So, I look forward to hearing peoples’ thoughts. I mean, I’m nervous because I don’t enjoy watching my stuff, but I hope everybody will like it and still stick with it even after seeing Devon not being the nicest person.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and is looking forward to the film Guilty At 17?

A) I would like to stress that Devon and I are very different people. Sometimes that can be misconstrued. I hope people enjoy it and that they learn something from the film. I hope they learn to stand their ground and that usually pays off in the end.
