Q) Often you’re described as alt-pop, but how would you describe your sound?

A) I would definitely say my sound is alt-pop, but it also leans a bit pop-punk!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Post Malone, 070 Shake, Avril Lavigne and Third Eye Blind have all inspired me musically.

Q) Your EP the bed i lie in is out now. What are some themes you explore on it?

A) Heartbreak, addiction and ultimately finding happiness.

Q) What kind of fan responses have you been receiving to the EP so far?

A) The response to the EP has been amazing! It seems like the fan favorite song is “after thought.”

Q) Talk about the story behind your song “Wasted Youth.”

A) “Wasted Youth” is based on my experience going to a wilderness treatment program when I was sixteen years old. I spent three months there and it drastically changed my life. If I hadn’t been sent there, I wouldn’t be where I am now, but I also wanted to share my experience with residual trauma and bring awareness to the ‘troubled teen industry’ as a whole.

Q) How does the video play into the message behind it?

A) In the music video, I share exactly what happened to me the day I was sent away. I share what the process of getting taken away there was like and what my everyday life looked like while I was away there. Having two men coming into your bedroom unannounced to take you from your home is something incredibly traumatic to go through at the age of sixteen.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My songwriting process varies depending on my mood. I have a ton of different concepts and song ideas saved to the notes app and recorded as voice memos on my phone. But sometimes I walk into a studio session with a producer and start completely from scratch. I don’t always need to have the music done first because I already have a lot of the concepts and have often written lyrics prior to having the sound, so it can sometimes just be about incorporating those lyrics/concepts into the music later.

Q) Which track(s) hold a special significance for you and what makes them stand out to you?

A) “Wasted Youth” is obviously a very personal song to me. “After Thought” is also a really emotional raw song though it still manages to be upbeat. I’ve felt like I’ve been such an afterthought in my life for so long and knowing other people can relate to that feeling too makes me feel less alone.

Q) What songs off your EP are you looking forward to performing live?

A) Definitely “after thought!”

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to the bed i lie in as a whole – whether it’s a message or an emotion?

A) I hope people take away that no matter what at the end of the day you always have yourself. As human beings, we go through so much in life and people come and go, but YOU always stays with YOU. Also, I want people to know that it’s okay to be vulnerable and to feel your feelings. The more vulnerable we are, the more we can connect with others.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I have been having a blast performing at PRIDE festivals lately! I feel so safe and at home in that community. But also, I could be anywhere in the world and as long as I am on stage performing, I am living in my truth!

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Avril Lavigne.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Recently I have been listening to Lola Young and Mackenzy Mackay. I also have just been diving into a lot of UK-based artists and getting familiar with that sound.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Never give a f*ck what others think about you! ALWAYS WALK IN YOUR TRUTH!
