Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would describe my sound as Indie-pop. I use a lot of vocal fry in my records and like to pay attention to my dynamics and tone, which is something that is not super important in mainstream pop music.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Bands like The Beatles, Stray Cats, Temptations, Nirvana, etc. Bands that defined their era with their unique sound and look for sure.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Get Away.”

A) “Get Away” is about the escape from social and mental pressure. We live in a society today that is based around social media and it is easy to get lost in everything. It can all be really stressful, especially trying to conform to a lifestyle that is not meant for you. This song is essentially a get away from all of that, whether it’s a mental break or literally going out on a vacation or adventure!

Q) How did Jeremy Zucker influence the single?

A) He is such a super talented artist and I love his delivery and the tone he uses, especially his vibrato. Tons of people I meet say I sound similar to him and that is something I’m certainly not ashamed of.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I wrote this song so anyone can casually put it on while they are in the car or hanging out with friends, but I also tried to put purpose and meaning to the track so fans can dive deep into the lyrics. I feel like social pressure and stress/anxiety is something most people deal with and it is cool to give those people a voice in a society that doesn’t push for topics such as self-care in the mainstream media.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video takes the more literal approach of getting away. I wanted to portray that by getting out and connecting with others and nature, you can find joy and happiness. I wanted to show two people who never met connect and get away from their worldly problems just to enjoy life and have fun!

Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I like to be in a very calming environment usually with dim lighting, I also write all of my initial ideas on pen and paper or on the note’s app on my phone. Funny enough, I come up with most of my best work in the shower. I usually have to record a melody or idea I think of in the shower with the voice memo app on my phone immediately after my shower. That’s why I always try to have my phone handy! I think listing to music is always a good thing and whenever I do any work whatsoever, I definitely am rocking out to some tunes!

Q) Bardo has been producing some of your music. How much of hand do you, personally, have in the production of your music?

A) I try to be very hands on with whoever I am working, but sometimes I like to let producers be creative and add their own touch or flare to the project. In the case of “Get Away,” Bardo came up with the chorus and the instrumentals while I tackled the chord structures and lyrics.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) For right now I am trying to take it one single at a time to understand and work on my own sound. But after I have a few more songs out I plan on putting out my first EP as sort of a collection of those records.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I always like to perform at all the local places close to my hometown. The support and energy you receive from where you grew up is insane and you can usually draw personal connections to the venues.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) It would be awesome to work with Khalid. I am a huge fan of his work and I feel like his sound and vibe would work well with mine.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Tame Impala, their sound is super unique and makes me want to just create art every time I listen to any of their music. Tame Impala also does not shy away from using strange chord structures and time signatures which is sweet because the music industry needs more artists that are willing to take risks and be different.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Social media is awesome because you are instantly able to receive feedback from people. This is a good thing because it can help artists know what their fans like and dislike. Social media is also a positive because it makes the fans feel more involved and allows them to feel like they are a part of your life and journey.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you all so much. You guys are what keep me pushing myself every day to get better and to continue to put out new work!
