Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) Right now, I’m just working on my show, “Zoey 101.” We’re at the end of our second season right now. I’ve been working on that for the whole summer. It’s going pretty good and we got nominated for an Emmy! I’m excited about that.
Q) You played Simba in the stage production of The Lion King. What made you want to begin your career in theater?
A) When I first came out here to LA that was one of the first jobs I got. I went and auditioned for it. I didn’t know how to sing or dance so I went just because it was an audition. I went for my first audition and they told me I could be a good singer. They wanted me to take up singing for a little while and then I did it. When I got to the fourth audition, I got the chance to see one of the shows and loved it. I just wanted to do it since I wasn’t a big theater person in the beginning until I actually saw the show. I loved it so much that I wanted to do the show; I just had to. It was definitely the inspiration of the show.
Q) For your role in the production, you were nominated for Outstanding Young Performer. How did that make you feel?
A) That made me feel great because it was my first job and my first time in LA. Being already honored with an award made me feel really good; especially being so young I was running around the house with it! It was pretty cool.
Q) You play Michael on the show “Zoey 101.” Please tell us about your character.
A) Michael is kind of like me because he plays sports. He’s the type of guy that doesn’t have a lot of enemies. He doesn’t like to have any enemies so he tries to be on everyone’s side, but at the same time if it’s wrong or if it’s right he lets you know. I’m kind of a middleman type of guy to keep the peace.
Q) What is it like working on a show with a cast so similar in age?
A) It’s so much fun. It brings a lot to the table so whenever I forget a line; we all kind of help each other out. Sean (who plays Chase) knows like everyone’s lines so if you forget one you can ask him and he’ll tell you. It’s really good because we have a lot of fun and help each other out a lot. It’s like a family away from family. We all have a great time and they couldn’t have picked a better cast to work with.
Q) What is your most memorable moment from the show?
A) I have a couple. The one, of course, is being nominated for an Emmy. The other would be when all of the guys got to throw water balloons at the girls. That had to be the most fun because the girls didn’t want to do it and the guys wanted to do it so bad. It was just perfect. It was so much fun.
Q) The show is a big hit. Did you ever think it would be so successful?
A) I knew it had potential because when you watch it on TV you can tell how much fun we’re having. Still to this day, I watch the tapes over and over. You can look at it and see that we’re having so much fun and you really want to go to that school. I knew it would be a hit because kids can relate to it. Nickelodeon gets so many calls, emails and fan letters about where is PCA because they all want to go. It’s the type of thing that they can draw kids into wanting to go to boarding school and be independent. It really gives you a diverse feeling about what is going on.
Q) What has been your favorite project to work on?
A) I would have to say that “Zoey 101” is the one. This is probably the one because I’ve had the most fun and I enjoy everyone from the cast to the crew. This show would definitely win that category!
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) In my spare time I go back home to Atlanta, Georgia and we ride four wheelers, dirt bikes, play basketball and swim. Back home is my free time.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I would like to say thank you, without them the show wouldn’t be doing so well. Without the fans, there is no one watching. Without the fans and viewers, the show is just a show on television. Thank you to all of the fans and supporters for watching the show, liking it and for sending in all the fan mail. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be in this position today. Thank you.
