Coldway – Pull Up

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) The most accurate way that I could describe it would be “Space Soul.” It’s ambient for the most part, with some serious ‘Memphis’ elements in there.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I’m kind of a melting pot with my influences. They stem from Tupac, Corinne Bailey Rae, 311, Musiq Soulchild, Three 6 Mafia and Ryan Leslie. Certain artists kinda “fit” a certain moment in my life where they were the soundtrack to my existence. [laughs]

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Pull Up.”

A) “Pull Up” is a vibey jam that comes from the thought of telling someone to come through. Just another way one saying it lol.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) The groove and the bounce of it. My choice of words was very intriguing too, as I only cursed once. DJ’s love it. [laughs]

Q) How did you come to team up with Rose Courtz on this track?

A) Rose Courtz isn’t actually on the song, she’s just in the video. Shout out to Rose Courtz though, that’s home team.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) It’s high quality, but rather simple, just like the song. It’s just an extension of the record in visual form. Isaiah Conyers directed one hell of a video.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Well, I’m very unorthodox when it comes to writing. Sometimes the subject matter comes to me first, sometimes a catchy line comes to me first, sometimes the beat comes to me first, as I’m a producer as well. Regardless, whenever I think up a song, I can usually hear the whole song in my head before I even record it.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I produce 95% of my own music, I’m a one stop shop. I have to really trust a producer’s ear to work with them, yet, I’m finding myself working with more and more producers as I move along in my career.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Coldway performance?

A) Full interaction. I’m very in-tune with the people at my shows because I feed off of the energy in the room. I don’t care if it’s a thousand people or five, I’m going hard for the room.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Yes, Too Much To Drink: Vibe City is coming very soon. It’s the second installment of the Too Much To Drink.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love doing festivals. People seem to be more comfortable outside with the fresh air lol. I’m also a country boy so I love being outside anyways.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I need to collab with Andre 3000, French Montana and Maroon 5. I know, I know…weird list. [laughs]

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’m kinda secluded at the moment because I’m in album mode. I try not to let anything influence my sound when I’m doing a project. I want my fans to know that there’s only one Coldway and I’m going to give them ME, not a carbon copy of someone else.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Music is a great platform to have. You can really help change lives for the better. Social media gives the people a chance to really connect with you, see what you’re thinking. It also gives you a way to receive feedback on what you’re doing. This type of information wasn’t available ten years ago.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you all for riding passenger seat with me, I promise I won’t let yall down! We got a long way to go baby.
