Colony – Eleven.Thirteen
By: Gladys Luna
“Colony” has returned with a whole new season intending to keep their fans at the edge of their seats. The first episode of the so expected Season Two called Eleven. Thirteen opens with The Bowman Family sharing a regular and tranquil breakfast morning, exchanging random comments about how their morning goes until we see a not so rested Will (Josh Holloway) disappear into another room. This is an action not missed by his wife Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) who follows him in order to find out what it is that is keeping Will kind of absent minded. Will tells her that, apparently, Devon (Carolyn Michelle Smith) “got her hands dirty” and what keeps him worried is that he either has to tell the bureau about what she did or walk out. While they are discussing the whole situation, they are interrupted by the door bell and Will leaves as Katie assures him they will figure it outG
Katie is driving Charlie (Jacob Buster) to his practice as he tries to use the maps application to help her find the best way to their destination. Suddenly, he realizes the application is not working properly as it keeps showing places they are not currently at – a fact that the kid seems to find very strange and unsettles him a bit, but Kate tries to calm him by saying she´ll get them there the old fashioned way.
Alan (Peter Jacobson) is arguing on the phone with his ex-wife over a house they are trying to sell when he arrives to his office finishing the call. Once he is there, he´s advised that some representatives from “The Textbook Publishers” are waiting for him inside. As he walks to his office he is greeted by two mystery men all dressed in black who introduce themselves as recruiting officers for the “Institute for Global Advancement.” They explain to him that he is the right person for what they are looking for, but Alan retorts he never applied for any specific position. They let him know how their client selects people based on a particular algorithm hence that is how he was selected.
Also, they begin to provide him a list of details about his personal life much to Alan´s surprise. They inform him as well about knowing that he diverted some cash from the institution he is currently on to an account under the name of his deceased paternal uncle that happens to share the same name as him. So, they ask Alan to agree to meet their client in order to figure out what´s in store for him.
Will and Devon are at a cafeteria while discussing Devon´s plans of buying a house, but Will doesn´t show much enthusiasm about the conversation. This, of course, doesn´t go unnoticed by Devon as she asks him about his lack of reaction. He explains his doubts about how is that she managed to get the money to buy a house in Santa Monica, which she replies she has an uncle that helped her with the down payment. Will also informs her that he is thinking about asking for a transfer from the team and when Devon asks the reason why, he explains that he is not so comfortable about her relationship with the Armenians which offends Devon as she feels Will is questioning her integrity.
The conversation is suddenly interrupted by a phone call from the bureau that both have to attend to where they are immediately informed about seven VIP´s gone missing overnight and that apparently have been extracted by a militarized entity. Three of their whereabouts were identified and the others remain unclear. They are assigned with the obvious task of bringing them home safe and sound.
Will and Devon arrived to Tim Lawes (Jay Paul Boehmer) mansion, one of the VIP´s targeted to be kidnapped, but luckily he managed to escape. As Devon and Will search inside the house for him, they are met with a female dead body lying on the floor as she seemed to be shot. When looking in the second floor of the mansion, they find out a security camera pointing at them and they introduced themselves to whoever is at the other side of the same as FBI agents. They get an immediate reply from Tim Lawes, himself, who seems to be hidden in a panic room. He requests for them to show their badges and even when they do so, no answer comes from the other side. When they are about to leave, Mr. Lawes opens the door to the panic room that was disguised as a half of his office library wearing a defeated look on his face.
Eric (Tory Kittles) pays a visit to Katie at the bar after he visited his ill mother as he just returned to the city. They share a small conversation about why Katie decided to work at the bar when she was a good life as a mother and wife, but she explains to him that it serves her as a “purpose” since she saw her mother being solely seen a mother and a wife but she wanted to be seen as more than that by her kids. He shares the reasons he enlisted for and how by far he hasn’t found any of the answers he was looking for.
Back to the Lawes mansion, he explains to Devon and Will how he managed to escape from his almost captors. As he is questioned by the agents how is that an engineer needs a panic room for. Mr. Lowe explains that there is a list of 1,200 people, he included, that in case a major disaster hits the earth and ends it. They get sequestered and are entrusted with the task of rebooting it.
Alan is taken to an isolated facility by the men that visited him at his office. He is requested to wear a special beanie and headphones in order to enter to meet their client. He enters to a dark, isolated room surrounded by pipes where suddenly he finds himself in front of a figure in uniform known as one of The Host.
Back outside, one of the recruiters asks him to make a decision on whether he is joining them or not, but he leaves the van and walks straight into the front door of a house where he is received by his ex-wife Elaine (Lori Alan). He explains to her she need to leave Los Angeles and find some place safe to stay. His daughter, Cynthia (Molly Kunz), comes out of the kitchen and he asks her to come with him as he begins to explain to them that The Host has taken only a small percentage of the population and he is only allowed to take one person with him. The recruiters break into the house and Alan asks them to take his daughter and so they do leaving a very unsettle Elaine behind.
Eric receives a call and leaves the bar immediately at the same time Will and Devon are informed that a lot of people have been going missing as the days just passed. As they are walking through the hallway of the bureau with Mr. Lawes in tow, they are passed by the two recruiters that took Alan and his daughter away. Will calls Katie and asks her to take the kids from school and meet him at the bar later. Katie informs her younger sister Maddie to take her husband Ron and son Hudson and meet them at the bar as well, but Maddie (Amanda Righetti) tells her that Rob has just left to New York.
Back at the bureau, Devon suggests Will to walk out of the office, but he refuses although she decides to leave. Will comes back to meet Cormier to notify him that they just got Mr. Lowes when they are surprised with a power outage realizing that the cellphones have stopped working as well. Out in the street, Katie is heading to get Bram (Alex Neustaedter) with Gracie (Isabella Crovetti) along, but suddenly all the cars go crazy and stop working as well. Confused drivers begin to gather on the street trying to find out what the cause of it, but there are no clear answers around. Will manages to leave the building only to find all the cars stranded down the street. Katie, Bram and Gracie are waiting at the bar when Will arrives and explains to Katie that they have suffered an EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) attack. Katie responds that Rob, her sister´s husband, was on a plane when the attack happened. As Katie is unable to reach for Charlie due to the incident, Will decides to take the bike stored at the bar and go find him promising they will be alright and meet the next morning.
At the bureau facilities, where Alan is taken, he meets Helena Goldwin (Ally Walker) who introduces herself as the Governor General Chief of Staff telling him that even though she knows is a lot to take for him and the rest of the citizens. She assures him that is a brave new world and this was bound to happen one way or another.
Eric meets with Wierzbowski (Mikal Vega) and other men as they were requested to get ready to go against the attackers, but Eric doesn’t seem quite convinced on staying there and he proposes to Wierzbowski but he refuses. Eric decides to walk out of the place and starts to listen explosions around the area when suddenly a bomb is dropped at the place, destroying it and making Eric run away as fast as possible.
At the bar, Maddie arrives knocking desperately at the door. When Katie lets them in, she notices what appears to be round flying objects all around the place so she closes the door immediately. Once inside, Katie begins to sing in an attempt to calm Gracie followed by a sequence of Eric trying to do CPR on his mother and Will riding the back as fast as possible amongst the chaos in the city. He is stopped right in his track at the arrival of huge flying blocks aligned in order to create walls around the city.
Will manages to get to Santa Monica where he asks to a group of men gathered there about his son Charlie. The men refuse to help him and stab him instead. Back in Los Angeles, with the help of her sister Maddie, Katie is allowed to visit her son Bram who has been detained. Will arrives at a house and as he is approaching to the front, a female voice calls him to stop from the inside. When the door opens he sees Devon comes out. She is surprised to see him standing there asking for her help.
