Colony – Sublimation
By: Gladys Luna
At the “Red Hats” recruitment facility, a large group of people is waiting to be interviewed and luckily, recruited. Two man standing in line exchange a quick conversation before one of them goes inside. Just a few minutes after, the office explodes and another group of people from outside the facility start shooting at everyone inside. People panic and start to run away, but the doors are locked and nobody manages to escape. There´s one last man, lying on the ground barely alive and another man with a hood on his head approaches to him and states: “If you collaborate, you die.” He shoots him one more time and then walks away.
Jennifer (Kathleen Rose Perkins) is called into Bennett´s (Christian Clemenson) office at the bureau and when she arrives she sees him arguing with other men. He leads her into his office to inform her that a group of professionals have been called to clean the mess they have done, obviously referring to the previous shooting at the Red Hats facilities. Bennett´s expresses his lack of faith in Jennifer´s skills to resolve any of the matters currently going and, once more, he asks her to prove that she really is valuable for the institution (how many times can one have to pull the string until it finally breaks?). Jennifer calls Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) who is at home making lunch for Gracie (Isabella Crovetti) and is in the middle of a lesson with Lindsey (Erin Way). Jennifer asks Katie to meet her at McArthur Park if she really cares for her family. Katie immediately drops her activities and prepares to leave when she is intercepted by Lindsey who curiously asks her why Gracie is no longer studying at Maddie´s (Amanda Righetti) house. She also informs her that Maddie has been received into The Greatest Day – something Katie didn´t seem to care about and leaves.
Devon (Carolyn Michelle Smith) is at her place waiting for Will (Josh Holloway) to return. Charlie (Jacob Buster) is silently sitting on the couch. Devon offers him a granola bar and he saves it on his pocket. As he puts his right foot on the table, a scar on his ankle is shown drawing Devon´s attention. He immediately covers it with his other foot. She comes near to him and shows him a scar she had earned while on duty telling him that: “Every scar is a story. The more you live, the more you get; nothing to be embarrassed about.” It is something that makes Charlie feel confident and he proudly shows her another one he carries in his chest.
In the meantime at the labor camp, Bram (Alex Neustaedter) is walking to his dorm when four man attack him and steal his boots, running away while yelling, “Welcome to the shit, fish.” Bram is forced to return to the labor camp barefooted.
Katie is at the McArthur Park waiting for Jennifer. They pretend to look at some clothing while chatting. Jennifer wants to Katie to give Broussard (Tory Kittles) to her, but she assures her she has no way to contact him yet Jennifer doesn’t believe her. Katie finally tells her that there´s a bug in homeland that looks like a bee and that is how they got all the intelligence for their operation. That is all that Katie can offer to her before walking away asking her to never call her again.
Katie arrives at a Bible Study and she talks to Carl (Casey Sander), showing him her guilt about putting her needs and ideals first instead of her family´s and how she is afraid of this burden may fall into her daughter´s shoulder. Carl suggests “You just have to ask yourself what matters most to you, your problems or your pride,” leaving Katie somehow in doubt.
Nolan (Adrian Pasdar) and Maddie arrive to an empty place with a slightly resemblance of a church. Maddie suggests Nolan that the more places they build for “The Greatest Day” the more influence they will have – something Nolan agrees on, completely excited to imagine of what they may accomplish together.
At the labor camp, Bram is questioned by one of his friends about what happened to him. She assures him she knows who stole his stuff and when he asks for the man´s identity, she just turns her gaze to a guy standing a few lines away from them. She tells him that he needs to stop them from stealing his things otherwise the place would eat him alive.
Will arrives at Devon´s place. He confirms Charlie that Solomon won’t bother him or any of his friends again. Devon tells him that as soon as Solomon´s business partners find out about what happened they will go looking after them to what Will suggests to move from there. He is going back to LA with Charlie and Devon decides she will go with them too. Still, they don’t have a clear way on how they will manage to escape. Charlie proposes to use a Coyote and Devon seems to know someone, a person Will may not like entirely.
Katie asks Maddie to go see her and once she is there she apologizes for going behind her back to Nolan. She also asks for another favor from her. As she explains how things have gone terribly wrong by the minute in the area, she confesses that maybe soon they will come for her so she asks Maddie to take care of Gracie in case of that happens. Maddie agrees to it promising nothing will happen.
Devon, Will and Charlie pay a visit to Chuck, the coyote. They request three tickets to LA and in exchange they offer him money and Devon´s place. He explains to them how the process will be in order for them to make it to LA without been noticed.
Jennifer is at the bureau with a group of men searching the place for the “bee” that Katie had told her about earlier that day. So far, nothing has come out and Jennifer is really frustrated. Suddenly, one of the men approaches to her as he shows her the “bee” he just found. Bennett takes Jennifer to her office telling her she needs to tell him the identity of her source, but she refuses to confess it. Bennett threatens Jennifer on taking the operation himself if she doesn’t hand him something more solid on Broussard.
At the labor camp, Bram spots the guy who was pointed as the one who stole his stuffs. He walks towards him and confronts him, earning a punch in the face by said guy. They start a fight and one of the officers walks in stopping the guy with a taser. Alan (Peter Jacobson) watches everything and threatens Officer Jenkins (Mac Brandt) with reporting him for using such methods.
Katie is at her place with Gracie and she hands her four books: The Bible, The Koran, The Works of Confucius and one of the volumes of the Buddhist Tipitaka. She tells Gracie that some of the stories that The Greatest Day have told them are also written in two of the four books and proposes to teach her about it without telling Lindsey so she won’t get mad. Gracie agrees. On the way to the wall, Devon and Will discuss about how he feels betrayed by Katie when she decided to join The Resistance without telling him and not knowing what exactly is awaiting him in the other side of the wall. Katie admits to Gracie that she doesn’t believe in The Greatest Day and the little girl shows her concern as she thinks Katie might be left behind because of it. Katie proposes Gracie to spend more time at the Green Zone with her aunt and cousin, but the girl wants them both to be together. Katie begins to cry and ask her daughter not to worry about anything.
Will is watching Charlie on his sleep, he wakes up and asks him if Katie, Bram and Gracie are alive and leaves him speechless when he finally asked him why he didn´t pick him up that day? Katie is also watching Gracie in her sleep when she receives a call from Jennifer informing her that her boss wants more information about Broussard. Katie finally agrees to provide her with the information she needs. Jennifer returns to Bennett´s office telling him that her source will deliver her Broussard the next day to them.
Bram has been taken to a cell as a punishment for the fight earlier that day. Suddenly, two men get in there and bring him to Alan, who ends up proposing to him on becoming his spy. Alan confesses to Bram that he gave Will the transit pass he used to go to the other side of the wall to look for Charlie. After a while, Alan finally convinces Bram on doing the task requested.
Will, Devon, Charlie and two unknown guys begin to climb the wall and when they are about to reach the top a drone spots them, killing the two guys first and then Devon. When Charlie and Will are ready to be shot, the drone just remains there in front of them only to suddenly move away, sparing their lives.
Katie meets at a playground with Jennifer while Gracie is having fun. Katie tells her about her plans on delivering Gracie at the Green Zone to her sister then she can walk with her to Homeland. Jennifer was expecting for Katie to deliver Broussard, but she assures her once again that she doesn’t know where to find him. After a heart to heart chat, Katie stands up. Katie now knows that she can expect anything to happen from now on. She and Gracie are back at the house packing, but the little girl doesn’t want to go. When they are about to leave, they hear noises outside and suddenly the door opens revealing Will and Charlie finally at their door. Katie hugs Charlie while Will carries Gracie and hugs her. After a moment, Katie and Will turn at each other and stare at one another with hesitation showing in their eyes.
What is waiting for Katie and Will family now they are finally reunited? Be sure to follow up Colony every Thursday at 10/9 c on USA Network. See you next time!
