Count To Ten – Neck Deep
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
Alex: I would describe our sound as pop with an edgy bad boy feel backed by tight harmonies and powerful guitars.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
Dan W: Some of our biggest influences come from edgy pop rock bands like Anarbor, Taking Back Sunday, All American Rejects and The 1975.
Q) Talk about the story behind your song “Neck Deep.”
Dan W: I’d say “Neck Deep” is about being left to drown and feeling that you got the short end of it. Someone leaving you for greener pastures. The chorus is more sarcastic than anything.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans will connect to?
Alex: I think the fans will connect to the idea of the chorus. It really is about being in your own head after a breakup and drowning yourself in those sad thoughts. The chorus tries to portray what that’s like and I think allot of people can relate.
Q) Will there be a music video to accompany the track?
Jon: There will be a music video to accompany the track that we are extremely excited to show our fans! This is our first ever music video and we are so happy with the way it’s come out.
Q) How do you write your songs? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
Alex: Our writing begins at a few different places. We usually sit down with acoustics and write together. Recently, we have been starting tracks with no lyric or melody just song structures and writing over the track. We try to do both ways and write as much as possible.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
Alex: We have a pretty large hand in the production of our music because a lot of the basic tracking starts in our own small home studios. After that, we bring it to our producer Russ DeSalvo and he always has amazing ideas and listens to us when we have an opinion. He is always pushing us to top that last lead vocal or that guitar part to get the best possible record made.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Count to Ten performance?
Dan K: Our live performance is very dynamic. We try to have a lot of mood changes from high energy to sentimental moments to show fans we don’t just play at ten all the time! We are very much so a harmony and vocal driven band so you can hear all your favorite melodies. When we kick it in to high gear we try to get people off their feet as much as possible!
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
Jon: We would love to work with some of our idols such as Taking Back Sunday, All Time Low, Brand New or Paramore. It would be hard to pick one because they have all reflected so much on our writing in different ways.
Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?
Dan K: If there is anything our fans can do to help promote our music is share it with their friends! If you like it, chances are your friends will, too. Play it at parties, while you study…whatever you like just enjoy it with everyone you can. If you feel you want to be more involved, reach us at our email: counttotenmusic@gmail.com
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
Dan W: Social media is the easiest way for us to spread the word to people on a daily basis. Fans are always on their phones during lunch break at work or after classes so they can see the latest thing we put out without having to search to find it.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
Jon: On behalf of all of the band we would like to thank you for giving us a listen and joining our journey. Not everyone takes the time to find the new artists that don’t have big label deals and it means a lot to us that you gave us that listen. None of this is possible without the support of our fans.
