Q) What can you tease what’s in store this season on “Insecure” from Sequoia?

A) Well, you can definitely expect to see a lot of her! She is much more vocal, much more hands on and much more protective! You not gone mess with her or her boss lady, Issa (Issa Rae)!

Q) Were there any characters you got to interact with this season that you haven’t in the past?

A) Yes, I did! I was able to interact with Natasha [Rothwell] much more, which was a treat, to say the least. I had the pleasure of being on an episode that she was directing, and watching her work was so amazing! Knowing her as an actress is one thing. But interacting with her as a director was a whole other experience! I absolutely loved her high energy, her funny commentary and her encouragement to explore a scene and have fun with it! It was a pretty amazing experience and allowed me to see a whole new side of Natasha!

Q) What was your favorite episode to film and what makes it such a standout for you?

A) My favorite episode has to be the last one. The growth, the emotions, the love. I loved interacting with a majority of the key characters in the show and we just had a really great time filming it. They did a wonderful job with wrapping up the season. It’s going to be an emotional and beautiful finale!

Q) The final season of Insecure is finally here. What will you miss the most being on this show?

A) The behind-the-scenes moments. Spending time with the hair and makeup team, talking to other cast members, walking around the set, watching what the scene looks on the monitors while other actors worked. For my first time being on a huge production, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It was like one big family. Everyone had one goal in mind; to make an amazing show and have fun while doing it and you felt the good energy every day. I’m going to miss that energy.

Q) What has it meant to you to be a part of a series like “Insecure?”

A) I remember watching the last episode of Season 3 with my best friend Rem, and already anticipating the next season. Rem looked at me and said, “I can see you on this show, girl,” and I smiled and yelled “ME TOO! That would be a dream!” And now here I am, my second and final season on the show, feeling so grateful. It feels like I’m apart of Black TV history. I’m a part of a show that will never be forgotten, a series that showcased Black Life so beautifully, with all its ups and its downs. So, to put it gently, it means the world to me being a part of this series.

Q) What is something you’ve personally taken away from your time being on the show?

A) Personally, I learned that it takes a lot of great and talented people to make a memorable show. As someone in the midst of writing my own show, this show reminded me to look for my people. To build a team that will help create magic with me. Probably not breaking news for most, but it reminded me that I don’t need to do everything on my own.

Q) Why did you think “Insecure” resonated with so many people all these years?

A) Because it touched on the experience of ordinary Black people. No stereotypes, no tropes, just Black people existing. We don’t get to see that often. And when we (Black people) are well written, filmed beautifully and given a fire soundtrack to our lives, what’s not to love??

Q) Do you think people will be happy with the final season?

A) Yes and no. No, because who wants Insecure to be over?? But also yes because, I’m telling you, this is the best season yet. The drama, the laughs, the love, the special guests. They pulled out all the stops this year, so I know everyone will be in for a treat! The season will be a fun but sad ride. It will definitely provide the bittersweet feels.

Q) Are there any recent projects that you have been busy working on lately?

A) Actually, yes! I am working on a movie called THE BRIDE, in Hungary with Nathalie Emmanuel this year, which has been amazing so far! Besides Nathalie just being the sweetest and funniest woman, being in Hungary was too damn cool! I go back to Budapest to finish filming before the end of the year and I can’t wait for everyone to see it!
