The episode opens and we find Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin) with her law book propped up on the kitchen counter while she washes dishes. “I hate when dad makes lunch, this is just half a salami,” says son Tommy (Steele Stebbins). Scott (Steve Monroe) corrects that he put slices of bread and cheese in the brown paper bag as well. Ah, lunch lovingly prepared by dad. “Great, now I have to steal the keys from the teacher’s lounge again,” adds Brendon (Elijah Nelson) before he and Tommy leave for school. Paula is thanking Scott for his help, she couldn’t do all this without him. A guilty Scott confesses that he had sex with his coworker Tonya after going out for drinks after work and getting trapped in the car due to rain. Scott says it was only one time. Paula is angry and hurt, but she has to go to work now. “We’ll talk about it when you get home,” Scott says. “Home? You don’t live here anymore,” is Paula’s parting words before leaving for the office.

At Whitefeather and Associates, Paula is about to make her ice mocha. But to her annoyance, all the ice cubes are gone. She slams the refrigerator shut then shouts “Who did this, who put an empty ice tray back twice! What man did this?” The culprit Tim (Michael McMillian) comes forward explaining that it’s hard filling up the ice tray and opening the refrigerator door because the water spills. Besides, somebody else always does it. This infuriates Paula more as she is the person, the “somebody else” who does it. And she doesn’t want the “dirty man ice” from his glass either. Paula runs off in tears, followed by Rebecca (Rachel Bloom).

In the conference room, Rebecca and Mrs. Hernandez (Gina Gallego) are with Paula as she is wiping the tears from her eyes. Rebecca tells Paula that she knows why she is crying, it’s because she misses their friendship. Rebecca even apologizes for Paula. Me complex much Rebecca? Mrs. Hernandez calls Rebecca on her whiny, child-like personality and reminds that everything isn’t about Rebecca. Paula tells the women that Scott had sex with Tonya from work. She adds that she threw him out of the house so doesn’t know how she’ll get everything done now. “The morning rush use to be like the Olympics, now it’ll be like The Hunger Games. Children fighting for food.” Paula now can’t go on the class trip to Sacramento to tour the Supreme Court.

Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) has a cold and girlfriend Anna (Brittany Snow) does want to kiss him for fear of catching his germs.

At the Proctor house, Paula is packing lunches when Tommy asks about the volcano he needs for a school project. Paula doesn’t have time to help him, but suggests Brandon. But the eldest Proctor son is not there as he hopped a Greyhound bus using the money he stole for Paula’s purse. Rebecca arrives offering her assistance as Paula’s own personal “Mr. Mom.” After reminding Rebecca that she’ll have Tommy for the entire weekend, Paula leaves. Even though Rebecca’s never been a mom, she listened to a podcast called “Mom Time Daily” on her way to the Proctor house. This leads to the song “So Maternal” in which Rebecca sings of her great mom skills. Tommy doesn’t have anything to do so Rebecca tells him they can do anything he wants. “I’m Mr. Mom, which means I’m a Dad, which means fun stuff.” However, Tommy’s suggestions of smoking, drinking and seeing boobs are illegal for someone his age and therefore a no-go for Rebecca, who instead suggestions getting popcorn and binge watching television.

At the market, Rebecca runs into Josh and gives Tommy over a hundred dollars to go get himself some candy. Heck, with that much money Tommy can buy Willie Wonka’s chocolate factory! Rebecca apologizes to Josh for peeing on his stuff and mentions that she knows that he has a new girlfriend and wishes him well. Rebecca wants to give Josh a hug, but he tells her he has the sniffles. Rebecca doesn’t let that stop her. Tommy returns and Josh tells him he has the best babysitter ever in Rebecca Bunch. Back at the Proctor house, Rebecca orders a quart of soup to be delivered to Josh with a note.

At Aloha Tech, Josh gets the soup but mistakenly believes it’s from Anna. He asks Dave to take a selfie of him with the soup so he can tag Anna with the photo. Josh doesn’t realize that when someone takes a photo of you for you, it’s not a selfie.

Rebecca sees the photo Josh posted and tagged Anna on and is determined to find him and set the record straight. She learns from Josh’s Instagram that he’s at Spiders and tells Tommy that she needs to get him a fake ID so they can go there. At Spiders, Heather (Vella Lovell) is there. She is famous now as Ms. Douche. Unfortunately, when Rebecca looks away, Tommy is gone. His Instagram tells her that he’s in the bathroom. But Rebecca and Heather have to hide in a stall when Josh and Anna enter for some bathroom sex. Poor Rebecca. Anna is embarrassed when she sees Josh model at Spiders with other models from small businesses. Later, she breaks up with him. Josh says he can’t believe it, especially since Anna sent him soup. But Anna says she didn’t. Josh finally realizes Rebecca sent the soup. Rebecca has always been there for him; it’s always been Rebecca. This realization leads to Josh singing the song “Duh!”

Back at Paula’s house, Rebecca finds Paula has returned home. But before Rebecca can tell Paula that Tommy is missing, Tommy enters the room. They lie to Paula about where they’ve been. Paula thanks Rebecca for being the one person she can trust. Josh arrives and tells Rebecca that he knows that she is his soup fairy. He says he realizes that she’s always been there for him. Rebecca tells Josh that she has to take care of her family. “I’m not giving up on you and I’m not giving up on us,” Josh tells Rebecca then leaves. Rebecca confesses to Paula that she and Tommy lied to her, telling her what happened at Spiders. Paula tells Rebecca how she once lost Tommy for an entire weekend at Barnes and Noble. Mistakes happen when you’re a parent, says Paula. The important thing is that Rebecca was there for Paula when she needed her the most and that is the sign of a true friend.
