Crazy Ex Girlfriend – Why Is Josh In A Bad Mood?

Since the beginning of “Crazy Ex Girlfriend,” Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) has had one thought on her mind: Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III). Yes, I know “it’s more nuance than that,” but that obsession has fueled her actions for sixteen episodes. So, what happens when she shifts her focus to the other man in her life, Greg? Viewers get an episode that finds mellow Josh in a bad mood (hence the title) as he questions his feelings for Rebecca. Plus, we get a nifty song about UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections).

As the episode opens, Rebecca and Greg (Santino Fontana) are basking in three days of coupledom, complete with lots of sex and word games.

At Whitefeather and Associates, Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin) asks Rebecca whether Josh will be leaving Valencia for her. Rebecca tells Paula she’ll no longer be pursuing Josh. Then, they talk about something else…the weather. Yes, if Paula and Rebecca can’t talk about Rebecca’s pursuit of Josh then their conversation is boring! Darryl (Pete Gardner) arrives and it seems he is one of the judges in the upcoming pie baking contest in which Paula is a contestant.

Meanwhile, Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz) is pleased Josh’s sister asked her to make the wedding gift bags for her upcoming wedding. Valencia happily talks about how weddings make her feel. Josh is not feeling “the happy” about weddings or Valencia it seems.

When Rebecca tells Greg about her UTI, which has worsened due to their healthy sex life, Greg proudly sings “I Gave You A UTI.” Seriously, no other show except “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” can give viewers the best and wittiest body part/ailment tunes. Remember Heavy Boobs a few episodes ago?

Greg’s great mood continues in the bar. Heather notes it and Rebecca’s body language so shares her “they’re having sex” theory with Josh, which earns her the moniker “dumb face.” Someone is in a bad mood. Oh yeah, it’s Josh. But why is Josh in a bad mood? Is it because he’s realizing Rebecca is moving on from him right when he’s feeling something for her? Here’s an idea for next season: Crazy Would-Be Boyfriend?

Josh decides to work out his feelings at the dojo in a combination of karate and dance moves. It’s The Karate Disco Kid. Vincent Rodriguez III definitely has some serious moves!

Paula can’t get her winning pies up to par. She seems down because Rebecca is not with Josh. Paula has invested as much in the relationship as Rebecca. When Rebecca comes to Paula’s kitchen, the pie talk is sidelined in favor of the discussion of the panties Paula pulls from Rebecca’s pocket. Paula happily thinks Rebecca’s having sex with Josh, but Rebecca shoots down that theory. Okay, as long as Rebecca is not having sex with Greg. Paula says that because that would complicate things when Rebecca and Josh get finally together since Greg and Josh are friends.
