Interviews
Dani Doucette – Craved
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Pop/RnB; however, I love to collab with other artist/producers so I do have some electronic music out.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I love Alicia Keys, since I was a little girl. I think she influenced my lyrical style a bit. I also love current artists like Halsey and Ria Mae.
Q) What is it about the Toronto music scene that has made it so popular these days?
A) I think Toronto talent has just been “undiscovered” for a long time. We have some icons emerging from the city and I think that helps.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Craved.”
A) “Craved” is a feeling. Connecting eyes with someone across the room and imagining what being with them would feel like. The song was written about mystery and curiosity.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think everyone has had the feeling I talk about and can connect to that, but also the beat and track itself is just so “feel good.”
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) Well, I had fun with this because the story line is actually about being captured by an “alien.” I have a love for sci-fi and movies like 5th Element. That’s why I created the “Daniverse.”
Q) What is it about “Craved” that makes it the perfect Summer bop?
A) It’s a sexy track!!
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) I write music differently. I hear melody first an attach words, usually.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I am fully immersed in the production. I am very particular.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I just performed at North Bay Pride, the Capitol Centre. I was standing on stage and looked up to see windows with suns, moons and planets. I thought it was synchronistic. I was supposed to be there.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I’d love to work with The Weekend, Maroon 5 and Shawn Mendes.
Q) You’ve also been in the fashion industry for many years. What are some trends you’re currently loving?
A) I don’t follow trends so much! I just love to wear what I wanna wear! But I do love all the more gender fluid outfit choices and the furry bucket hats. I also loooveeee color.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I love to connect. So, it’s important to me to return messages and say thank you.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) It’s all just starting, and everyone listening you are all a huge part of my journey and I am so, so grateful. Run with me!
