Interviews
Dante Palminteri – Brunettes
By: Jennifer Vintzileos
Q) How would you best describe your sound?
A) I would describe my sound as alternative rock mixed with pop-punk
Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?
A) John Mayer, Chet Baker and Jason Isbell
Q) As someone who grew up on both the East and West coast, in what ways has that influenced your songwriting style?
A) I would say growing up traveling has made me much more open and inclusive to other types of music. Being exposed to a lot of subgenres and subcultures really made me open-minded about the art that I like and the music that I make.
Q) Tell us the story behind your current single “Brunettes.”
A) This song was written deep in quarantine in New York. After months and months of sitting around waiting for the world to get back on track I wanted to write a song that would take me out of the mundane lifestyle that was my reality, even if it’s only for four minutes. I wrote about leaving what is comfortable and going into an adventure. I just needed to have some action in my life and was dying to write about it.
Q) You also recently released a music video for “Brunettes.” How did you come up with the concept for the video?
A) The concept for the video was actually pretty easy for us to come up with. The song was always to be the star of the video and we didn’t want to intertwine it with a complicated story or events. We wanted the video to show the same vibe as the song did. Rock, gritty, and raw. The only thing was because of COVID I could not shoot in Brooklyn where I was originally going to shoot it. I didn’t want the video to be us wearing masks, so we decided on the desert. And I think it worked out great.
Q) With the release of “Brunettes” and the prior single “Take It from Me,” are there any plans for a full-length album?
A) Absolutely, I am still going to be releasing singles for the time being to get more fans and more awareness but I for sure have plans on a big body of work soon.
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from your music?
A) I want listeners to take away that I just love the music that I am making now, and nothing compares to the feeling of rock. The biggest driver for musicians is that we just love music and think it’s the coolest thing ever. I really want that to be taken away.
Q) Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?
A) I would really love to collab with Matty Healy of The 1975. He has a uniqueness to his music and style that is so different than anyone else. He is someone that hugely inspires me.
Q) Aside from music you have also pursued a career in acting. Are there any upcoming projects that you can tell us about?
A) A huge majority of the industry has been hamstrung due to COVID. The good thing is it’s starting to open back up now so there will definitely be something coming up soon. I just finished shooting the show “Godfather of Harlem” a little while ago.
Q) How has your acting career helped you with your music, and vice versa?
A) Acting training is a great way to put yourself in a story that you weren’t necessarily involved in, in order to write a song. It lets me get inside the heads and emotions of something outside myself and lets me access the mindset that I need to in order to write a specific song.
Q) Your mother Gianna and father Chazz have been in the entertainment business for many years. What was the best advice they gave you when you decided to pursue a career in entertainment?
A) The best advice I have ever gotten is “85% of success is just showing up” and that is something that was taught to me from early on. Nobody is going to come knock on your door and ask you to write a song or act in a movie. You need to show up to everything you can. You never know what the tide will bring.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?
A) I just would like to show my total gratitude to anyone and everyone supporting my music. It really means the world to me, and I can’t wait to put out more and more music.
