David Paetkau – Fallen Star

Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?

A) I just did a couple shows back to back. I did a guest spot on the new show “Eureka.” I also guest star on a show called “Justice,” which will be on FOX this Fall.

Q) Please tell us about your character Beck McKaye on the show “Whistler.”

A) He’s a little bit different because he’s passed away and has been found in the open sea. He had everything going for him and he was on top of the world, but he is found dead under mysterious circumstances. His little brother Quinn starts to dig up things and he learns that Beck wasn’t all that he seemed.

Q) Why did you want to be a part of the show?

A) Initially, I really liked the pilot script and it was exciting to get to hang out in Canada. I was really enthralled by the writing and I had no idea what direction it was going to go in. The pilot was revised every time I got a script!

Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming?

A) I think the most fun we had was filming in Whistler because that’s where I grew up learning how to ski and snowboard. It was just a little surreal for me. We weren’t pretending to be somewhere else. We were set in Whistler and filmed in Whistler. It was somewhat of a dream come true. It was fun.

Q) How did you prepare for your role as an Olympic snowboarder?

A) I snowboard on a regular basis, but they were a little nervous about having us practice on our own just in case we accidentally broke a limb. It was actually frustrating because we were up in Whistler and it was a great season, but we weren’t allowed to snowboard. It felt like we were getting teased.

Q) Why should viewers take the time to tune in to the show?

A) If they do take the time, they’ll get caught up in the mystery and the drama. It’s kind of an addictive show. It’s got great writing and it’s kind of sexy, if I do say so myself. I am a huge fan of mystery so I think it’s worth watching.

Q) You were in the movie Final Destination 3. What is it about the series of films that you think continues to grasp viewers?

A) I think it’s such a mystery with horror films. They’ve got this incredibly huge loyal fan base that doesn’t make it it go away. When I was fourteen and fifteen years old, I watched horror movies all the time. I don’t know what it is. It just seems like that genre is the most resilient among the other genres in the movie business. They always have new fans.

Q) What do you do in your spare time?

A) I play hockey a lot, but now I am switching over to do some mountain biking. I also do a lot of yoga, which has been great to help me get in shape and be flexible.

Q) What is your latest obsession? A movie? A sport? A band? An activity?

A) I have to admit, I am slightly obsessed with the show “Rockstar: Supernova.” I feel guilty about it every time I watch it. Somehow my roommates got me into it and now I am hooked!

Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A) Thank you! This whole world is kind of new and I am flattered if anyone becomes a fan of my work. I have to give all of the credit back to the show “Whistler” because it has made it so easy and it’s so good. If I get fans because of the show then that’s great!
