Dearly – Get With You Alone

Q) How would you describe your sound?

 

A) Indie pop with a groovy feel

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

 

A) Lana Del Rey, Ella Vos, Verite

 

Q) How did you come up with the new name Dearly?

 

A) I was brainstorming name ideas and Dearly came to me and I loved the way it sounds/the meaning to it. Dearly means very much- deeply, extremely, profoundly – as an artist, I want this project to be sincere and real and be a complete fresh start for me.

 

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Get With You Alone.”

 

A) “Get With You Alone” is about wanting someone that already has a lover – it’s groovy and mysterious and expresses a clear story line through every verse.

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

 

A) I think fans are connecting to the pure honesty and raw vocals in the song. It’s so different than anything I’ve done before but it’s being received so well.

 

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

 

A) For the video, we wanted to keep it simple and kind of just introduce me as a new artist, Dearly. It just gives a blank canvas for me to perform the song and for viewers to really feel the song.

 

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

 

A) The songwriting process for me is different every time. Typically, I start off writing lyrics/ideas first and the songs grow from there. Since I moved to Nashville I’ve been diving into cowriting and I love being able to work with other creatives.

 

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

 

A) I’m involved but love collaboration/work with people I really trust, so I typically let them do their thing!

 

Q) What can fans expect from a live Dearly performance?

 

A) Groovy dancing and powerful vocals.

 

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

 

A) I’m going to be releasing more singles but hoping to release an EP in the Fall!

 

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

 

A) Back in Portland (where I’m originally from), my favorite venue was the Hawthorne Theatre. I grew up going to shows there, so it was very full circle for me when I got to start performing there and opening for nationally touring artists with my last project.

 

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

 

A) I would love to work with Maggie Rogers – one of my favorite new acts in this moment! She writes very raw and emotional songs and has such a solid direction for who she is as an artist.

 

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

 

A) Fickle Friends, Betty Who, Lana Del Rey, Maggie Rogers – they all have amazing artistry and tell great stories through song.

 

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

 

A) It’s SO important because it helps me to get to know those listening to my music, interact with them and grow together. I’m trying to be as real and honest as I can with Dearly and social media gives me the chance to really express who I am as an artist to my fans.
