Interviews
Dee Jay Silver – Safe Zone
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Eclectic…different…my own!
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) From James Brown, Bruno Mars, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, all the way to Jason Aldean
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Safe Zone.”
A) Got the crew together, we sat down and Jared [Sciullo] had this beat in mind…and we just started brainstorming on ideas. Not sure who came up with the word safe zone, but we rolled with it and this is where it ended up!
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) Not really sure…maybe everyone is a freak? [laughs] No, the song just flows…has a bad ass bass line, great Spanish guitar and then Cort nails the vocals!
Q) How did you come to work with Cort Carpenter on the track?
A) I randomly met Cort and we tried to set up a writing session for weeks. We stayed in touch and finally worked out a time. Nashville is a small town…I’ve heard a lot about Cort. He’s super talented and a great guy!
Q) For your songs with lyrics, do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) Sometimes. For “Safe Zone,” we just wrote to the beat, but for songs like “Made To Do” and “Just Got Paid” I already had a good start and built a beat around it!
Q) You’re a DJ/remixer/producer. Are you all-hands-on-deck for your own music?
A) For sure…we start and finish every song.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Dee Jay Silver performance?
A) High energy, fun…something for everyone!
Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?
A) Working on a full length now! Shooting for spring break!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) Vegas – Nashville – Scottsdale – Austin – Dallas – Boston – San Diego – Chicago – Detroit – Miami No matter what day of the week…it’s always a party!
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Dan+Shay – Taylor Swift – Kane Brown
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Kane Brown – Calvin Harris – Austin Burke – and I’ve got a 2 year old, so that damn Baby Shark song is always on!
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) It’s a personal way that we can connect, like you’re friends, but never met. You let people in your life…or take a look in your life that normally wouldn’t be able too!
Q) How did you and your wife decide to create the “Wake’s Friends” program?
A) It was after Jenna went through the whole miscarriage and spending a lot of time with nurses and doctors. We realized how much of a miracle life is and how amazingly fortunate we are with Wake. We are blessed to have such an amazing kid…and I may spoil him a little too much…So, we just wanted to give back and one day we hope Wake realizes how blessed he is and that there are kids out in this world that just don’t have a family that love them, warm clothes and cool toys to play with. If we can make one kid smile, help one kid get warm or get the toy that they always wanted, we would consider this a complete success. We are so overwhelmed with the response from around the country! We’re so thankful and grateful to everyone that gave, posted on social media, told a friend or even messaged us saying they can’t afford to send anything but they wished they could!
Q) How can people donate their new toys and pajamas to Wake’s Friends?
A) They can send any new toy or pajamas of any size to Wakes Friends P.O. Box 682068 Franklin, TN 37068
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you! I read every comment…good or bad…and without the support of each person I wouldn’t be able to do what I do for a living! I always look forward to meeting each and every person. Thank you again!!!
