Descendants 2: The Countdown to Evil Begins

Disney Channel’s hit franchise Descendants returns this Friday, July 21st with the second installment in the series and I, for one, cannot be more excited! Descendants 2 stars Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart and Mitchell Hope, all whom are returning to this new adventure and are now joined by China Anne Mcclain, Thomas Doherty and Dylan Playfair.

According to the film’s description, “When the pressure to be royally perfect gets to be too much for Mal (Dove Cameron), she returns to the Isle of the Lost. Only she discovers that Uma (China Ann McClain), the daughter of Ursula, and her gang, rounded out by Harry (Thomas Doherty) who is Captain Hook’s son and Gil (Dylan Playfair) as Gaston’s son, have taken over the Isle and are finalizing plans to bring down the barrier. It’s up to Ben (Mitchell Hope), Evie (Sofia Carson), Carlos (Cameron Boyce), and Jay (Booboo Stewart) to team up once again and save not only Mal but all of Auradon.”

For the first time in history the movie is premiering simultaneously on FIVE different networks at once :DIsney Channel, Disney XD, Freeform, ABC and Lifetime. Hopefully, this means that the rating will be through the roof.

I’d like to break down a few reasons why I am super excited for this, what looks to be a fun sequel!

The Trailers

This year we have gotten a few teaser and full length trailers to promote this new adventure. Each one has been better than the previous one. The production of this movie looks amazing! Everything from the costumes to the sets to the music have all gotten an upgrade and it looks to be worth it!

The Posters

We have been so fortunate this time around to be given multiple promotional posters! Below are two of the character posters featuring our fave Villain Kids (“VK’s”) and the new band of misfits. As I mentioned earlier, each of the characters got a costume and hair upgrade and they look AMAZING! The posters really hype me up for what’s to come this week!

The Soundtrack

I have already preordered the soundtrack. We know the first two songs are “Ways to Be Wicked” and “What’s My Name.” “Ways to be Wicked” is an ensemble featuring the main four VK’s and is a EDM/Pop hit that is such a bop. Everytime it plays on shuffle I can’t help, but jam out. “What’s My Name” is the introductory song to Uma and I can’t wait to see it played out on screen.

We also are gonna get upgraded covers of Little Mermaid hits “Kiss the Girl” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls” that I, for one, am so excited to hear and see play out. Also, we also get more “Wicked World” songs from Season Two.

Merchandise/Books/Spin-off

Since the first film we have gotten even more merch, a whole new book and more of the spin-off “Wicked World.” Hopefully ,if and when this film is a success, I can’t wait to buy more merchandise. It is rumored that the Descendants 2 DVD that will be released in August and will feature some “Wicked World” episodes.

Be sure to pick up a copy of the first movie on DVD, the three books by Melissa De La Cruz (The Isle of the Lost, Return to the Isle and Rise of the Isle of the Lost), any other books like Mal’s Diary or the Auradon Yearbook, the soundtracks and any dolls, toys, clothing or posters you can find!
