Devil May Care – The New Guy

As Zachary Bean (Asif Ali), better known as Beans, approaches the Gates of Hell he quickly finds out that he has been appointed to become an assistant to the Devil (Alan Tudyk) himself. The head demon Gloria (Stephanie Beatriz) comes to pick him from the gates and escort him through Hell to the main man, the Devil. During this ride through a vast wasteland, the city in Hell is more of a Metropolis filled with hipsters and kale as far as the eye can see.

But the Devil is not quite what Beans imagined, a well-dressed boss type who spends copious amounts of time speaking with his lover Regina (Pamela Adlon) over the phone and has former President William McKinley (Fred Tatasciore) as his right-hand man. Beans finds that the Devil is excited to get an assistant. And after Beans shares that he was a Social Media Manager in his former life, the Devil is intrigued by the idea of reaching out to his residents in new technological ways.

To stay in the Devil’s good graces, Beans creates a website called “Chit Chat” as a way for the Devil to connect with the residents of Hell. The first resident considers this as more of a porn connection than conversation, so Beans assures the Devil that he will fix the issue as the Devil heads out the door for his rendezvous with Regina. While Beans continues to work on the issue an elderly woman comes onto the screen with her cat, looking to speak to the Devil. When Beans explains that the Devil has left, the cat squirms out of the elderly woman’s arms and goes to leave.

After his first day as assistant Beans is ready to head home to his newly assigned abode but stumbles upon the cat from the “Chit Chat” website and approaches him, not realizing that the cat is not alone and has brought along many other cat reinforcements. Unfortunately, in Hell the cats are evil creatures and will do anything to get to the Devil himself. But first they go for Beans and attack him. Then, they begin creating havoc for the residents. Beans manages to make it back to the office to work with Gloria and McKinley on a plan.

As the Devil has had his night of passion with Regina, he is interrupted by the cats at the door. While he is quite well-mannered and works hard to make Hell more of a happy place, the Devil realizes with the cats scratching at the door to get to him that he can no longer be the nice guy and morphs into his real form. Regina is pleased at this transformation.

The Devil then returns to the office in his demonic form, ready to get the cats under control by any means necessary. When Beans explains that it was him who accidentally gave the cats his location the Devil does not take it out on him. Instead, the Devil takes Beans and McKinley to Enron Stadium. After reminding Beans that sometimes people need to pay for their mistakes, th eDevil decides to make an example of McKinley and ties him down to the ground. McKinley is then subjected to a fate worse than death: his allergy to cats used against him as he is now locked in a room with them for the foreseeable future. With all the cats now under control, the Devil reminds Beans that as long as he sticks with him he’ll rise up in the ranks in no time.
