Interviews
Diane Guerrero – Orange Is The New Black
Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) This Spring I worked on a film by Jay Craven called Peter and John where I play Lucia, a displaced Cuban woman searching for a new life in 1872 Nantucket. I also worked on a CW pilot “Jane the Virgin” by Jennie Snyder where I play Lina, Jane’s best friend. I will be working on that this summer. Right now, I am also working on the 3rd season of “Orange Is The New Black.”
Q) Please tease what is in store for Season 2 of “Orange Is The New Black” and with Maritza.
A) Maritza is just being herself and trying to follow the rules of the kitchen while trying to disregard the rules of the prison. I think you will see a little bit more of her.
Q) Was there anything that you added to the role that wasn’t originally scripted for you?
A) I think all of us improvise a little and add our own personal touches to the characters. Otherwise, it would not be genuine.
Q) The cast seems so close. Who are you closest to offset?
A) We are very close. I personally have found connections with a lot of the cast members and seeing them at events always brings me so much joy. I am; however, very close to my Latina homies. There is something special.
Q) What directors have you enjoyed working with the most?
A) I really liked working on “Orange” with Allison Anders and Andrew McCarthy. They both are very generous and were very patient. I respond well to patience and clarity in a director. I will also say that enjoyed working with Jay Craven in Peter and John. Jay was very interested in the actors role in the piece and always listened to creative concerns. I really appreciated that.
Q) What have been some of your most memorable moments from filming?
A) Every moment was so special on set and continues to be. I love the times where every cast member has to so with the episode, those are always fun. I think the most fun was the last episode of Season 1 where I put the fire out in the kitchen. Hilarious!
Q) We’ve heard some major celebrities expressing interest in guest starring. Who would you like to see guest in Season 3?
A) I’d love to see any Latina super star like Jennifer Lopez or Rosario Dawson in “Orange” for sure! I would be sure to be in scenes with them.
Q) You are a part of social networking sites. Are you looking forward to the instant feedback you’ll receive from fans when Season 2 airs?
A) Sure, I like all the response I have received from the “Orange Is The New Black” fans. It’s been so beautiful and heart warming. I’m glad to be a person people can relate to. I think some people respond well to Maritza’s quirkiness and share her passion for pizza! I am one of those people.
Q) What are some quick and easy fashion tips you can share with fans?
A) I would say sometimes the simplest touches can make a difference and really bring out your personality. Whatever those touches are, let them be you and no one else. Also, mascara can always spruce up any look.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) I would say thank you. I will always try to do everything with a kind heart and to the best of my ability. I am very grateful.
Q) Is there anything else you’d like to be sure to share with fans about Season 2 of “Orange Is The New Black?”
A) I think Season 2 is wonderful and many will enjoy it. I am very proud to be a part of a show that is unlike any other out there. For any criticisms, I would say this is the representation of one story and there are still so many more stories to be told. This is the beauty of being human.
