Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) The song is a mix of electronic dance music and pop.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Phil Collins, Kygo, Martin Garrix, Clean Bandit, Zedd, Kanye West, Chris Brown and Sasha Sloan. I’m also influenced by classical music.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Move On.”

A) My ex-girlfriend broke up with me. Six months later, she decided she wanted to get back together. I’m not here for anyone else’s convenience. I only have one life to live and I’m not going to spend it chasing after someone who doesn’t want to be caught. I told her I wasn’t interested, but she couldn’t take “no” for an answer. So, this song is to let her and the world know the answer is “NO.” Move on. Plus, I was binge watching “Scandal” with my current girlfriend and trust me, you hear “move on” at least twice an episode. That, too, was inspiring. [laughs]

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think everyone can relate to the end of a love affair and the subsequent detachment from the person they thought they were in love with. The moving on, the recovery from the pain, anger, frustration is an emotional relief that virtually everyone can identify with.

Q) The video for the song comes out this week. How does it play into the message behind it?

A) The video storyline is that of a couple separating and already emotionally moving on.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I create the music and once it’s completed, I write the song, but most of the time it’s done at the same time. The second I’ve created a great melody the lyrics shoot out of me like a cannon.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Most of the time, 100%. However, when I create something and I see the potential for improvement I seek out one of several go-to musicians to help improve the track.

Q) In what ways does your connection to Chicago influence your music?

A) The music in Chicago is extremely diverse. It’s everything from the history making gospel choirs of some of the churches and the live blues music that’s still common in the city, to the internationally acclaimed festival scene that included Pitchfork, Lollapalooza and Spring Awaking, among many others.

Q) What can fans expect from a live DJ Scandalous performance?

A) Once the official album is released, I will announce tour dates.

Q) Will there be an album or full EP coming in the near future?

A) Yes, I’ll be releasing an instrumental mixtape album called When You’re Broke And Can’t Afford Singers… in late August / early September and I’ll be releasing the official album at the end of October.

Q) You have worked with some iconic musicians from Cyndi Lauper to Stevie Wonder. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Phil Collins! I am a huge fan of his music since it got me through the first girlfriend I broke up with. He’s definitely an inspiration and it would be a dream come true, but I’m all about fulfilling dreams. In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Lately, K-Pop has gotten my attention and all seems very upbeat and danceable. I also love the music videos. They are very creative, colorful and I love the choreography. They seem like they’re having a lot of fun with the creative process and there’s always a large group of them.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It helps to announce new projects, build anticipation and receive feedback that’s critical to how I can expand my audience. I also like to use analytics, so I know who my target audience is. That way, I can focus on seeking new fans who would more than likely enjoy my music.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your support means everything to me. Thank you for listening, for streaming, and for sharing my music with your family and friends.
