Donkeyboy – It’ll Be Alright
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) We are a synth-pop band with extremely catchy melodies and lyrics.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) We have always listened a lot to the big pop bands and artists from the 80’s like A-ha, Alphaville, Tom Petty, Queen and Michael Jackson, but also newer bands like Daft Punk, Empire of the Sun and the 1975 inspire us a lot.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “It’ll be Alright.”
A) Originally, it was meant to be released in 2013, but we were missing a part in the song and the lyrics were not finished until just recently. Actually, our manager said, “This has to be a positive anthem,” and from there it did itself! We’re happy to have finally released it!
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) We have always believed that it’s important that the listeners feel something when they listen to our music and we really think that is the case with this song. Hopefully, they feel some kind of comfort; that everything will be alright in the end.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) We haven’t made an official video for this one; just a basic lyric video.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) We always start with the music; Most of the time with a beat and a bassline, and from there we just go with the flow!
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) We produce everything ourselves, but sometimes we collaborate with other producers as well.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Donkeyboy performance?
A) We are a seven-piece live band and we try to play everything live like a real band. A lot of acts hide behind lots and lots of backing tracks, but we think it’s important to play as much as possible live. Other than that, the live shows are positive and filled with smiles and good times!
Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?
A) We are working on a lot of new material, but we haven’t decided if we’re going to release an EP or album. Hopefully, we’ll be able to make enough good songs for a full album!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform, and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) We love to perform in smaller towns and places where there are not concerts that often, like north of Norway. The crowds are crazy up there!
- Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
- A) We are big fans of Daft Punk, so a collaboration with them would be AMAZING!
- Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
- A) It’s important to get direct feedback from our fans and it is very inspiring to talk directly to them. We have recently streamed live from studio sessions and let the fans give us direct feedback on the production; extremely exciting writing process!
- Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
- A) We love you!!! Spread the donkeyboy love to the world!
