Drew Sidora – Get Into the Groove
Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) I have actually been in Atlanta filming Motives 2. I also just finished filming Wild Hogs, which is due out December. It’s starring John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen and William H. Macy. It’s a comedy and it’s a great role where I get to play Martin’s daughter. Of course, I just came off of doing the film Step Up, which opened up and is doing really well now. In January, I am set to star in B Girl, which is a break dancing film. It was a short that they are turning into a feature. The short won a lot of awards and things like that. They are turning it into a full length film and I am starring in a lead role. I am also working on music and my album. I had two songs on the movie’s album.
Q) Please tell us about the premise for the film Step Up and about your character Lucy.
A) It’s a film that has a message telling young people to make good choices. There is always that opportunity you get to make a choice and change your life for the better. No matter where you come from and your background, it’s important to make good choices and follow your dreams. As you see in the film, Tyler (Channing Tatum), comes from a not so great background and has the opportunity to follow his passion in dancing and also falls in love. Though his friends and people around him say that he’ll never make it, he is able to make a better life for himself. You see that message in the surrounding characters, as well. My character, in particular, Lucy plays the best friend to Nora (Jenna Dewan). She’s striving to be a great singer and is forced to make a decision in a relationship aspect. She is someone most girls can identify with. You see a lot of characters having to make similar choices.
Q) What made you want to be a part of this project?
A) It has a great message and it’s very entertaining. I was in Chicago at the time and my agent told me about the audition, but I couldn’t make it. I filmed myself on tape and got the call that they wanted me to do the film. I also come from a background in dance so it was perfect for me to do that. Of course, I am singing too, so it was really big for me to show both sides of myself since I am a musical artist, as well as an actress. To be able to do a film like this is one in a million.
Q) What was your most memorable moment from filming?
A) It would have to be getting a chance to do all of the dancing in the film. Most of all, we put on heels for the finale dance number. For me, that was really difficult because we had been practicing for around two months and then the director (who choreographed as well) said that we had to put on heels. It was like, “Wow!” We fell a couple of times, but we all had fun.
Q) You have two songs featured on the film’s soundtrack. How did this come about?
A) The song that I perform in the film is on the soundtrack. It’s a great scene where everyone is dancing in a club so that’s on the soundtrack. I also have a song that I wrote that Mario is on, which is a duet, called “For The Love.” It’s also in the film when I see my boyfriend cheat on me. It’s great that I was able to have two songs. I am the only person who was able to have two songs on the album. I am really excited because it allows me to get my music out there and let people know what kind of music I do.
Q) On the song “For The Love,” you got to work with singer Mario. What was it like working with him?
A) It was amazing being able to work with him in the film and doing the singing with him for the club scene. It was so incredible for me to see him in the studio, we actually were in the booth together singing. It was a great chemistry and great vibe. To me, he is one of the most talented young male vocalists. I learned a lot from him and it was very humbling to have him on the song I wrote. Coming from the film, it was so much more for me than I thought it would.
Q) Why should viewers take the time to see the movie Step Up?
A) People should definitely go see it since it is the best movie of the summer. Also, it’s an exciting and entertaining dance film. It’s definitely a classic. You should see it because of the message which allows people to see in their life it’s important to follow their passion.
Q) The movie has been quite a box office success. It opened at more than $21 million. How did that make you feel?
A) We totally didn’t expect! They projected nine to eleven million, so the fact that we were able to exceed that amount (with all of us being fresh faces) opened up a lot of opportunities and doors for us. We’re just really excited!
Q) You are a singer, songwriter, actor and dancer. What else would you like to try your hand at?
A) I definitely want to do more singing and dancing. I look at careers of people like Jennifer Lopez, who have both a successful singing career and a successful acting career, and I hope to be able to challenge myself and stretch myself as an actress.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) I spend time with my family. I had a couple of days off from Motive so we barbequed. I enjoy hanging out with friends and bowling, as well.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) Definitely keep me in prayers and I hope to be an inspiration to others. Follow your dreams and your passions. I knew I wanted to be entertainer all of my life and when you do what you love, it’s one of the most incredible feelings in the world. No matter where you come from and no matter what it is you want to do, make sure you stay strong. Put God first, prepare yourself for opportunities and follow your passion.
