Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I think it’s like a modern take on 90’s indie rock. This is always a hard question because everyone defines genres so differently.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) As a band, we all come from really different musical background and influences. But for me, personally, I’ve taken huge influence from bands like Coldplay, No Doubt, Garbage and Blink-182 to name a few.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Pull Apart Heart.”

A) “Pull Apart Heart” was written when I was going through a lot of changes in my personal life. I felt really conflicted and my thoughts was going in all different directions. I remember writing down “pull apart heart” in my notebook and instantly connecting with that line because it was exactly how I felt at the time. The rest of the song came together around that idea.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I’m not really sure. I think it’s a lot of different things for different people. Some people love it for the guitar riffs and the music, but other people put their own story to their lyrics and have their own way of connecting to what I’m singing about. It’s really cool to see it that way.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) For the songs on the new EP, a lot of them were written mainly just on a guitar at home with me humming some melodies over it. I think whatever just comes naturally. Sometimes we come up with some chords or a guitar riff and then the feeling follows and creates the lyrics. A lot of our newer songwriting is a lot more collaborative, so the process really varies.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) We have a big hand in getting to sound how we’d like it to, but for this EP a lot of it was left up to Konstantin Kersting (the producer). We sent him a few reference tracks beforehand and he had a really clear vision of how the songs should have sounded.

Q) You just got off tour with Silversun Pickups. What can fans expect from a live Eliza & The Delusionals performance?

A) Yes, we had the best time on tour with them. I like to think we put on a fun, high-energy show. A lot of the artists and performers we idolize always have great live shows and we’ve always worked really hard on putting a great live show together.

Q) What are some themes you explore on your EP A State of Living in an Objective Reality?

A) A lot of the lyrical themes come back to the state of my mental health and my experiences around that at the time. I think the name really ties the themes all together – living in a way where you have no control of yourself or what’s happening in your life.

Q) What songs off your EP are you looking forward to performing live?

A) We’ve actually been playing the EP songs for quite a while in our live set, so we’re super comfortable with them. We’re excited that they’re out and people can get to know them and sing along to them at the shows. I think as a band, “Swimming Pool” and “Just Exist” are some of our favorites to play live.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

A) Whatever they’d like to, I think. But in terms of what the songs are about, it’s the experience of dealing with a bad state of mental health and being in a position where you feel stuck and there’s nothing you can do for yourself. But there is a way out, you can work up the strength to get yourself out of the position. I guess I would say I’m living proof of that.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) We loved every city we toured in in the US. Everywhere was so different and had its own “things” that we could go and see or experience. I think as a band we loved visiting Las Vegas, Aspen and Los Angeles especially, but every city we went to was super cool. Everyone was really nice as well.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Speaking for myself, a Coldplay collaboration would be pretty great. Or any of the members of Blink-182.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I’ve recently had Moth by Chairlift on repeat. I’m a bit late to the party on this band and I’ve recently discovered that they split up a few years ago, but I am just obsessed with the songs on that record and Caroline Polacheck’s voice. I love that she has solo music that’s just as good.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I think, especially now, social media is more important for bands and artists than ever before. There are so many new ways we can connect with people – like Instagram and Facebook live – and I think that it’s the best way for us to continue to connect with people, especially our newer fanbase over in the states that we had just started to connect with and play for.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you for listening to our music and thank you for supporting us. Bands and artists need it more than ever right now. We can’t wait until we are able to get back on the road and come and continue playing music for you.
