Fatally Yours – Another You
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) We are a true rock based dark melodic band. Rhythmic thumping bass vibes with deep lyrical content.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Our influences range from a rock background like Alkaline trio, Danzig, world to more broken down stuff like city and color, Jeff Buckley type vibe. We dig newer stuff too though. Johnny Craig is an influential and inspiring say vocalist. The new Miss May I is getting a lot of play right now…
Q) What do you think it is about your song “Another You” that fans connect to?
A) Everybody has that person that digs in you. Everybody has addictions and secrets. Everybody lies to themselves sometimes. It comes from a place of a disappointed narcissist that can’t shake his true self or that self that won’t go away. Everyone has a piece of themselves that they don’t really like.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) It doesn’t. We wanted to party with our friends and film that. Can’t lose.
Q) What is your song writing process?
A) For me, I like to bring a good skeleton to the band and then we all start to add the organs – giving it life and breath.
Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) More times than not, we start with a progression and the words come in almost right after that. I’ve changed lyrics at the very last second as well though. Funny how that happens.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) A good bit. I love to add dynamics by flying other parts in and smoking some things smaller in post. Cutting the fat some would say. I’ve never been much of an engineer, but I love producing rhythmically, melodically and lyrically especially.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Fatally Yours performance?
A) A lot of killer fun. We are all really great friends and love what we do and hope that that comes through in the performance. Most songs are about love and death, but nowadays you can’t smile about it? [laughs]
Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?
A) We are dropping singles every couple months right now. It’s like the music business is back in the 50s. Looking to do a covers EP in 2018 as well!
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your music?
A) Just a good feeling. That’s all.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I’ve been lucky enough to play all around the world. No matter where I am, I like playing the off beaten path places or the second or third markets. Those kids just really love music and want an honest performance.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I’d love if Johnny Craig would sing on a tune. Or Jimmy Gnecco from Ours? Shit! Let’s have Matt Skiba in…
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) I’m actually rocking Robert Plant’s new record called Carry Fire. It’s so chill. Crazy to say that in 2017. Still doing it, man.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) It’s pretty much the only way these days…
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you. We’ve been a band now for five years and I see the band being around for another five! Reach out to us on any of our social media platforms. We love hearing and talking to you guys! Rock on!
