Ally (Rachel Paulson) has been spinning for years over Meg (Calico Cooper), the lead singer of her famous rock band Fire F*cking Fire and now her ultimate dream has come true. She wakes up with the other woman next to her after spending a wild and crazy night, completely unaware that soon her utopia will turn into a real-life nightmare. The short film Fire F*cking Fire explores the consequences that our own illusions can create as well as the importance of finding our own voice in the middle of a loud crowd.

Ally is the people-pleasing type of a woman whose expectations and way of life are put to the test when what’s supposed to be a one-night stand joins her the morning after, invading every corner of her peaceful life with the intention of staying for as long as she can. When Ally realizes that things are escalating quickly into something she is not comfortable with, she asks for her friend Jess (Capri Campeau) to help but to no avail. This leaves her with no choice but to “fight” for herself.

Fire F*cking Fire is a good example of how we are often clouded by our fantasies and the expectation we impose on others that, most of the time, ends up turning against us. Star Rachel Paulson manages to get you invested in the story, but also into everything she is experiencing – from the frustration building up inside of her all the way to finding her way to true freedom. Watching her character stand for herself finding her own voice and setting boundaries is a good lesson of how we are the only ones in charge of our own well-being.

Julia Eringer shares the director’s credit with star Rachel Paulson. The two beautifully capture the lead character’s frustrations and inner battles. Through the use of comedy, this duo manage to bring to the table a complex topic about remaining true to who we are without losing ourselves into others.

Fire F*cking Fire is a short film that offers viewers a lesson about standing up for ourselves. The story also serves as a good reminder that compromising our essence for someone else is never the best path to live our truth. This one is definitely a must see!
