FIREROSE – New Day
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) get inspired in my songwriting from incredible music across all genres! From Pop to Country to Rock, when a song hits my soul it’s in there forever. My sound is the same way. When I write a song and it resonates with my spirit I just sing, play and produce exactly what I feel. I think my sound is the sonic expression of all of that combined.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Truly, there are far too many to even list! The Beatles were huge musical influences on me growing up. So were Sia, Shania Twain, Elvis, Silverchair and The Killers.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “New Day.”
A) I originally wrote “New Day” during a really difficult time in my life. The hopeful lyrics and melody gave me a special strength during that time. For me, the greatest gift I can give is through the power of music. I’m deeply honored that now people around the world are getting uplifted by “New Day.” It means everything to me.
Q) It’s a super uplifting song! What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) Thank you! I think it’s the positive and hopeful essence of the song that fans are really connecting to. I’m super grateful to share this revitalizing song with everyone now, especially after such a challenging chapter in all of our lives.
Q) How did you come to work with the iconic Billy Ray Cyrus on the track?
A)I’ve been friends with Cyrus for years and he’s always been a huge supporter of my music. When I played him the demo of “New Day” he loved it. He said it sounded like a really special song and kept playing it over and over. Cyrus was inspired to write a verse on the song and the rest is history!
Q) What went through your mind when you heard you’d be recording a song with him?
A) Cyrus and I were actually working on recording another song together at the time. I was delighted when “New Day” resonated with him in the way it did. Getting to co-write songs with Cyrus is an incredibly fun creative process.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) I wanted the video to feel as colorful, electric and positive as the heart of the song. As it was shot during the pandemic, I wanted to invite fans into the creative process of us writing and playing “New Day” over the internet. I actually filmed Cyrus’ video footage on my iPhone over Zoom! I was stoked with how the visuals all came together.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) It usually starts with getting a melody and some lyrics that aren’t fully formed yet running through my head. Then, I’ll go to play my keyboard and find the chords, sing it over and over and the rest of the song kind of just comes to me.
Q) “New Day” was written over Zoom. Did it differ in any way from an in person writing session?
A) Like everyone during COVID, we had to adjust to the new normal. Fortunately, the song was so strong that we just worked away, piece by piece until we had it. “New Day” is also about reliance and fighting for a better day every day, so the writing process was exactly like that! Art imitating life imitating art.
Q) This song was produced by Pedro Calloni, but how much of a say do you have in the production of your music?
A) Pedro is an extraordinary producer and mixer. I also produce, so it’s wonderful speaking the same language when it comes to exactly how I want the record to sound. I’m involved in every part of the track from demo to master and Pedro is amazing at delivering exactly the sounds I hear.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the future?
A) Yes! I’m currently working on a full album.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) Performing at The Grand Ole Opry this month was absolutely phenomenal. It was extraordinary singing “New Day” with Cyrus on the sacred stage where countless iconic artists have performed.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) If I could collaborate with Sia my life would be complete.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Right now, I have BROODS on repeat. They are an exquisitely talented band from New Zealand. If you haven’t heard their music, you simply must check them out!
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) It’s a great way to connect with fans from every corner of the globe. I love hearing from people directly how my music makes them feel.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you with all my soul!! Your love and support mean the universe to me.
