Five Shows We Can’t Wait To Fall For

As hard as it may be to believe, Fall is just around the corner and with it, a slew of new shows across networks that we can only hope to fall in love with. Narrowing it down to five new shows was no easy feat, but here’s a look at what we’re particularly excited for:

Pitch:

Fox has the potential to bring us something truly great here. It’s got the potential to fill the void left by shows like “Friday Night Lights” and even “One Tree Hill” – fan favorite shows that are sports dramas which focus on the team and less the sport itself. “Pitch” has the chance to be even greater with the center of the story being Ginny Baker, the first female Major League Baseball pitcher. Starring teen star Kylie Bunbury as Baker and Ali Larter as Amelia Slater, we’re seeing women coming up, front and center, in what had been always deemed as a male dominated game. Baker as a pitcher and Larter as her representative. The show also stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Mike Lawson, San Diego Padres catcher, Mo McRae as Blip Sanders, Meagan Holder as Evelyn Sanders and Mike Beach as Baker’s father.

This Is Us:

The previews and trailers alone for NBC’s new drama “This Is Us” have had people tearing up. It seems like the kind of drama that would pump out those relatable, heart wrenching moments week to week–at least, we can hope. The show centers on a group of people born on the same day and their lives and loves. “This Is Us” stars a slew of newcomers and veterans such as Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan and Ron Cephas Jones. The trailers alone feel hopeful and warm, which is exactly what we need on Tuesday nights to keep us going through the week.

Pure Genius:

CBS’ new medical drama “Pure Genius” focuses on Silicon Valley billionaire James Bell, who dreams of a new age, cutting edge, high technology hospital that cuts out the paperwork, cuts out the errors and is at the head of the curve. It’s a new age of medicine and Bell (Augustus Prew) calls in veteran surgeon Dr. Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) to help him achieve his vision. From the trailers the series feels hopeful, inspiring and a more optimistic mix between “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Parenthood” – which is unsurprising considering the drama is created by Jason Katims, known for both “Parenthood” and “Friday Night Lights.” It feels, already, less about the technology and medicine and more about the aspirations and hopes of what this new hospital can do. It’s a fresh new take on medical dramas and one that hopefully hits its mark.

Notorious:

ABC’s upcoming legal drama “Notorious” is based on the real life story of “celebrity” defense attorney Mark Geragos whose famous clients have included the likes of stars such as Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and more. Already, the series looks downright sexy and gripping. It’s gritty, scandalous and just the kind of guilty pleasure we love paired with a glass of red wine on a weeknight. The show stars Piper Perabo, of Coyote Ugly and “Covert Affairs” fame and former “Rescue Me” standout Daniel Sunjata.

Frequency:

The CW’s latest drama, created by “Supernatural” alum Jeremy Carver, is based on a Gregory Hoblit film of the same name. The show focuses on detective Raimy Sullivan who finds out, by chance, that she’s able to communicate with her dead father, Frank Sullivan, via ham radio. The two Sullivans form a supernatural new bond as they join forces to solve a murder case. Unfortunately, complications arise due to “the butterfly effect.” It may be scifi on the CW, but this show feels anything but done since it’s fresh and excitingly dramatic. If the trailers are any indication, here’s hoping the show can weave elements of The Butterfly Effect and “Supernatural” to give us the fresh new drama we’re looking for.
