Q) Genre labeling is almost a thing of the past since most of the music released today comprises a myriad of influences that aren’t so easily pigeonholed into one category. Fur has managed to find its genius in modernizing 60’s era rock; with a dash of 80s and 90’s era Brit-pop, a pinch of crooning, and a big heaping spoonful of the driving beats from the early 2000’s garage bands. It seems that the recipe for Fur’s success is in making the familiar, new again. If you had to define your sound by genre, where would you say your work comfortably lands?

A) I think you’ve summed it up better than we ever do, so in future interviews well have a better answer.

Q) Who would you say has been your biggest music inspiration?

A) I think collectively we don’t have one artist, but Pete Doherty, Julian Casablancas and Jonathan Richman would be to name a few from all of us.

Q) You are back with the new infectious sun-shiny single “The Fine Line of a Quiet Life.” The song feels a bit like regret wrapped up in some positive and mature self-reflection. What was the mood you were trying to elicit with this song?

A) I wanted a song that people could play full volume in the car and feel like nothing else mattered.

Q) When writing a song like “The Fine Line of a Quiet Life” do the lyrics and music come together organically and all in one sitting or is it more of a collaborative experience where snippets of your lives are then woven together in the studio, creating one complete tapestry of sound?

A) All comes pretty naturally and pretty fast. I think that song was written in my living room in about two hours.

Q) When it came to the production side of this single, how much of a say did the band have in that aspect of your music making?

A) We all have a really good relationship with the our producer and I was really hands on with the sound of the album. The slightly glam side of it was something that kinda happened without too much intention though.

Q) You recently announced the band has signed on with Norway’s 777 Music. What made them the right fit for Fur?

A) They have such a great team and are so committed to helping their artists realize their potential and achieve their vision. Really feels like a family.

Q) Are you itching to get back on the road and do another tour? Any chance we might see you cross the pond and do some dates in the U.S.?

A) We cannot wait. It’s been so long and it’s all of our favorite part of being in a band. 2022 we hope we’ll be able to get across to the states and finally play to people who have been waiting a long time.

Q) Who would be your dream collaborator?

A) Kevin Parker seems to turn everything to gold so maybe we’d finally have a hit.

Q) Thinking back on a chaotic last year, what album or song was featured on your “Getting Through the Pandemic” playlist?

A) I listened to endless hours of Chet Baker.

Q) What is next for Fur? Any plans for a full-length album in the not-so-distant future?

A) Yeah! We’ve just recorded our debut album which, “The Fine Line of a Quiet Life” is from.

Q) What would you like to say to the fans who have followed your success, and the new fans who are already queuing up for your next release?

A) Thank You to those who have stuck with us even through difficult times where we’ve not had the means to release as we’d like to and to those just finding us, lucky you, we’re finally starting to get good.
