GageDC – Green Caviar

By  |

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would say my sound would be lyric driven, 90’s golden era influenced hip-hop music. You can relate to if you are a fan of the culture. Its that lyrical, wordplay storytelling that is missing in hip-hop lately.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Well I grew up listening to a lot of old school music like Motown and stuff like that. My parents were heavy into music so you could say the old greats like James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Michael Jackson, Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, 2pac, Biggie, Jay Z, and Nas – just to name a few.

Q) How did you get the title for your new EP Green Caviar?

A) Well, “Green Caviar” is what I call my marijuana strand. Ha-ha! It’s not out yet, but whenever you see or hear me talking about green caviar it’s basically talking about marijuana. And since I use the term so much, I just thought it was a good fit for the feel good music I make. It’s kind of like if you are not even heavy into marijuana, but you like music. By listening to the EP, it will give you that clam feel good euphoric high that you would get if you were smoking some green caviar.

Q) What are some of your favorite songs on the EP?

A) With this EP, I’m not having a bunch of tracks on there, hence the title “EP.” I want to make it short and sweet. The idea is to have like five or more awesome songs on there, but I have so much recorded I’m still trying to decide how many tracks I want on there. I do like “Thick Thighs And Ripped Jeans” and also a track I’ve called “Miami” (money is a major issue) on there.

Q)  What was the inspiration for your recent new music “Monday July Take Over” with freestyles like “Prime Time” and how will they resonate with fans?

A) On July 9, 2014 on the way back from the studio, I got into a car accident. Thank God I came out of it alive, but it just hit me that I didn’t have a lot of new content out before that. I was basically answering the tweets I was getting and things I was hearing about, but not putting out as much new music as before because I recently moved to Miami from Washington D.C. So, with that, it did not give me the time I had to put out music like my supporters know me for. And being that July is my birthday month, I decided to release new music every Monday for the whole month just to give my supporters something new from me since it had been a while. With the freestyles, it was like my little gift back to hold the supporters over until I dropped the new EP and then probably give them a single of the EP after that.

Q) What can fans expect from a live GageDC performance?

A) Form my live performances, you can expect a lot of energy and crowd engagement. When I perform, I want to make sure the people that came to see me leave with a feeling like they got the best show of their lives and had a a lot of fun while doing so.

Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?

A) Well, let me just say I appreciate every supporter. I call them supporters and not fans because I feel they are just people with good taste supporting a brand they can relate to. So, if they are on Twitter they can retweet the links me or Heat Rock Entertainment put out or just hit my bio up on Twitter, copy the links and tweet them out. Just support any project I put out on iTunes, Beats, etc.

Q) You are a part of social networking sites. Why is it important for you to connect with fans that way?

A) In my book and the times we are in now, I feel minus the music that social networking is the best way you can engage with people that support the brand. I talk to anybody who tweets me and I always like to hear what they thought about a certain track I put out or just seeing how my day is going. I love that I can always engage with them. And it is a great way to keep the supporters in the loop of anything new I have going on or about to get into. It also helps me and my supporters have that unique relationship, which also just helps push the brand.

Q) Where can fans go online to learn more about you?

A) You can check out my MTV artist page at http://www.mtv.com/artists/gagedc/. But the best way is following me on Twitter at @GageDC because I interact daily with all my supporters. That would be the best way. They can also check out http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/GageDC/song/popular/ and http://t.co/Me191PFysx.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) To all the supporters of my work, I just want to say thank you for enjoying this amazing ride with me so far. I put out four awesome projects and another one is on the way. They have been with me every step of the way and for that I’m very grateful. I still have things I want to do in my career so I just ask that they keep rocking out with me so we keep pushing the hip-hop culture and music in general while maintaining the art of it all. They help me to live my dream. So, a very big “thank you.” Also, to outlets like you guys at Starry Constellation Magazine and all the websites and blogs that support and post my music, get that Green Caviar EP when it drops. You will love it! So, check out my last project Victory Lap on iTunes, Beats music, Spotify and CD’s on Amazon.com!
