Interviews
George Stults – 7th Heaven
Q. What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?
A. So far I’ve been on “7th Heaven,” I’ve been on the show for five seasons. I’ve been fortunate to do little projects during the hiatus but right now when the show is shooting that’s the only thing I do, that’s the only thing I can.
Q. Now that the show got a continuation, what’s new this season?
A. Well, basically we were picked up by the CW for thirteen episodes. Then we lucked out and got picked up for the back nine. But, I love it now more than ever because I get to work with Lucy and Kevin’s baby girl named Savannah. She is played by two baby girls named Alyssa and Hannah and they are just so much fun to work with. Also, we have some new guest stars this season that are doing a great job. To me they bring comedy to the show, they make me laugh every day that I work with them. Their episodes have just started to air in the last couple of weeks. It’s good working with them, they’ve brought some freshness to the show. We were lacking with characters because some didn’t come back. We definitely lucked out with Mackenzie, who plays Ruthie, coming back. It’s definitely going to help with the viewers, she’s been a big part of the show for so long.
Q. Yeah, we read that it was kind of down to the wire with getting Mackenzie to appear on the show.
A. I don’t know what exactly happened, I haven’t even really talked to her about it, I’m just happy that she’s back. From what I heard, she wanted to go to her own schooling outside of what she’s done with her life on the show. I can’t blame her for wanting to live a normal life for once. She’s spent about eleven years of her life on a TV show and she didn’t get to do what normal children do. When I heard she might not come back at all, I was sad not to get to work with her because she’s so awesome, but also I understood it. Now she’s back and still doing school, I don’t know how she’s doing that, but thank God.
Q. We’ll be getting to see more of her in the near future on the show than I suppose.
A. Yeah, see we’re way ahead in episodes, four or five ahead. So yeah, you’ll get to see a lot more of her.
Q. What has been happening this season with Lucy and Kevin’s relationship?
A. I don’t know if you’ve been watching, but Lucy had a miscarriage at the beginning of the season and went through all of that drama. At first she didn’t want to have more children now with the storyline we’re trying to have another baby. It’s the same old arguments and making up and always having fun with the baby. So, that’s my favorite part. Kevin, my character, is still the stay at home father and Lucy’s character has taken over her father’s position at the church. She’s always working and I’m always taking care of that baby, which is fine by me! It’s fun!
Q. The show really shows a different family dynamic with obviously the traditional role of the wife staying at home with the kids while the husband works.
A. I love that, I’m hoping one day in real life I can get the same thing going!
Q. Since you’ve been on the show for five seasons, what is it about the role of Kevin that really continues to challenge you?
A. When we had the baby, that was scary. Imagine I might not be comfortable with pretending another person’s child as my baby. The more do it, the more comfortable you get, the more used to it you become. Now, when I have the babies are in my arms, when I’m carrying them around, I feel like they’re my own kids. I am so comfortable with them that I can throw them up in the air and not worry about dropping them on the ground. I guess their parents are either raising them right, or they just lucked out, because these babies are so well behaved. They are always pleasant, always playful, that right there has been a challenge within itself. This has never come easy for me, it’s always been somewhat of a challenge. Just like the more you do it, the easier it gets, the more easier it becomes to memorize all of your lines. These guys are all professionals and have been doing it for way longer than I have. Even the young kids that are younger than I am have been doing it way longer. Everyone comes to work prepared and it’s just really a pleasant place to work. It’s always a challenge when they add new characters to see how your chemistry with them is. Colton, who plays T-Bone, I’ve been getting a lot of scenes to do with him lately. It’s been a blast because he’s funny and I can barely keep a straight face when I’m doing the scenes with him.
Q. When the show does go off the air, what will you remember the most about it?
A. I’d say probably the relationships that I’ve built with not just the actors and actresses, but with all the crew members. This is a tight, knit group which makes going to work every morning enjoyable. Everyone gets along and everyone honesty has a good enough relationship where they care about each other. They make each other laugh, everyone is making fun of each other, cracking jokes. I will just be sitting back and just think how fortunate I was to be part of a TV show that was so special. Not just us here working everyday, but to the hundreds of thousands of people who watch the show across the country. I’ve been fortunate to travel to almost every major city in the United States to promote for “7th Heaven.” When people come up to you and they are so excited to meet you, it makes you feel good, because they love the show.
Q. You’ve done a lot of acting, is there anything else in the entertainment field that you’d like to try your hand at?
A. I really can’t see myself getting into that stuff. I try not to say never but who knows what the future will bring. I haven’t been doing this that long and I’d like to be bettering myself as much as possible as an actor. Until I get to a point where I am completely comfortable with my acting skills, I’m going to try and stay in front of the camera. Then, who knows, my brother Geoff has been in the producing side for a couple of years. I just can’t get interested, he’s begged me to become part of it. I can’t get off my butt to be interested. We’ll see, maybe some day.
Q. Do you have a really memorable moment from your time filming on the show?
A. I don’t just have one, every season it is something different. I couldn’t pick just one, I guess more of the ones that stand out is when Lucy and Kevin got married. That was like the first time I had been in a tux since I was a little kid, that was kind of cool. Pretending to get married, that was interesting, but it’s all good times here.
Q. What’s your latest obsession? Are you into any particular book, music group, activity or sport?
A. Dirt Bike riding is my new thing, I try to be as active as possible in my free time. My newest thing is dirt biking, it was rock climbing before that. That’s what I try to do in my free time. Also, house shopping!
Q. What would you like to say to all the fans and supporters of the show?
A. Thank you very, very much and we’ll keep doing it as long as you guys keep enjoying the show.
