Ghosts – Kyle
By: Gladys Luna
During one of his escapades out of the Mansion’s borders Pete (Richie Moriarty) meets Kyle (Ben Feldman), a living man whom, after being involved in a rollercoaster accident involving a bird, had acquired the ability to see ghosts. As expected, Pete gets all excited to know someone like Sam (Rose McIver) and has the brilliant idea to invite him over to the Woodstone Mansion to what Kyle happily agrees to. At the Mansion, Pete walks right through the door finding it hard to show his excitement about what is about to happen and announces that a living man is just about to come in. As on cue, Kyle enters the place and introduces himself to Sam and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) pretending not to see Thor (Devan Chandler Long), Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) or Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) who take no time to make funny comments about his outfit and backpack but what they do not expect is for Kyle to retort to their comments with an “At least I’m alive” when being unable to hide his power anymore, making them all gasp in awe. Sometime later, Bela (Punam Patel), meets Kyle and it is no mystery for her the newly bond that has grown between him and her sister-in-law so, she goes to talk to her brother to make sure that he is alright with the other guy’s presence there. At first, Jay appears to be unbeknownst about his sister’s inquiry saying that he is comfortable with having the other guy around and he even feels happy that Sam has someone who understands and shares her ability besides, he knows that Kyle is just going to be there for a few days so, he sees no harm in it but what actually sets something off in him is when his sister emphasizes on how handsome Kyle is and the quick connection he had seem to establish with Sam. And, although Bela feels that Sam is not the cheating type, she advises her brother to keep his eyes open. Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Hetty and Pete are there too and they seem to agree with her. Right that moment, Sam walks in all giddied up announcing that she has decided to hire Kyle as her new assistant since there is no risk that he would run away because of the ghosts’ presence like her last assistant did. Jay pretends to be excited about her decision but only for a moment while Hetty takes any opportunity she gets to hit on Kyle.
As time passes by, Jay starts to feel more and more left out of his wife and her new assistant’s dynamic and although not being able to see ghosts have never seemed to be an issue for him all along, he has started to resent it. Getting the jealousy to take the best out of him, he asks for his sister’s assistance to dig further into Kyle’s past just to make sure that he is not a treat to them. Soon, Bela discovers that he had spent six months in prison for breaking into a property so he decides to tell Sam all about it. Later, Kyle is at the kitchen with Sam since he has returned from the market; Thor and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) are there too. Suddenly, Jay enters the room followed by Pete, Alberta and Hetty to tell the bad news he just learned from Kyle and confront him about his time in prison; Kyle accepts the felony and clarifies that back in the day he met a ghost whom at her deathbed had intended to give a locket to her daughter but she was not able to arrive before her mother died so, still worried about that, she asked Kyle to go back to the house to recover the family heirloom to give it to her daughter and although he tried to walk his way into the house he didn’t succeed hence, he tried it the other way. He is not proud for breaking in but considers that it was worth to give the ghost a closure. Kyle feels that his presence there might lead to some trouble so he decides to leave. Sam confronts Jay for his behavior and accuses him of being jealous of her assistant and although he denies it, she does not believe it. Sam goes after Kyle to apologize for her husband’s accusations but he understands where he is coming from. They talk about his time in prison and how difficult it was to deal with both, the living and dead prisoners plus the horrible food they serve in there. Sam takes a place next to him as they discuss how great it is to have found someone with a shared ability and things seem to escalate quickly when the man leans in for a kiss but he’s immediately face palmed by Sam, pretty much like Pete’s style. He apologizes and blames it on the bond they’ve had and Sam makes sure to let him know that he had misunderstood the whole thing. Kyle also says that it has been hard for him to find someone who can understand him and confesses how the last person he was with could not handle the situation making Sam to come to the realization about how lucky she is to have Jay. Later on, Jay apologizes to Sam for his behavior but it is her who ends up saying sorry to him as she confesses the pass that Kyle did on her. Although things got shaky for a bit, they managed to make amends.
On another note, Joan (Taylor Ortega) has returned to the Woodstone Mansion and Sas (Román Zaragoza) has been picking his own brain trying to find a proper way to move to the next level with her. The couple are sharing some time outside the Mansion when they are interrupted by Nancy (Betsy Sodaro) who bluntly asks them if they had done it yet, taking them by surprise when confessing that the basement ghosts have started a bet about them. When she leaves, Sas apologizes to Joan in behalf the other ghost but she tells him that maybe tonight might be the night for them, leaving the “door open” for him to make the next move. Motivated by the stress this situation causes on him, Sas goes for advice to Thor and Flower who had been supporting him all along. As we know, Thor’s approaches aren’t exactly the smoothest and in honor to that, he suggests him to take the writer by surprise by carrying her using Flower as an example of it. Later that night and following up the advice he was given, once Sas is alone with his lover, he tries to do as he was told but unfortunately, he sends Joan flying out of the Mansion turning the whole romantic thing into an awkward situation. Sometime later, Joan talks to Sas letting him know that she believes that things work best when he follows his instincts and encourages him to do so. Finally, they share a lovely kiss that leads to a different result. The next morning, Sas makes sure to inform his ghosts’ friends that he and Joan had a successful night. Knowing exactly what he means, they all celebrate with him.
