Ghosts – Pinkus Returns
By: Gladys Luna
Sam (Rose McIver) is at the front desk of the mansion in the company of Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) and Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) when Sas (Román Zaragoza) joins them and they waste no time in asking him how things are going between him and Joan (Taylor Ortega) to what he says that she had to go back to Los Angeles but they will see each other soon. Suddenly, Trevor (Asher Grodman) rushes in announcing that his old friend Adam (Richie Keen) – that he usually refers to as “Pinkus” – has arrived and he cannot be more excited. It turns out that the other man was the person to whom Trevor had given his pants to the day he died. Seconds later, we see Pinkus walking in along with his daughter Abby (Gideon Adlon) to whom he introduces to Sam. As he stands before her, he takes a moment to look around expressing how nostalgic it makes him feel to be there twenty-five years after his friend Trevor died. Sam lets him know that a couple years ago they held a memorial for him there and Pinkus says that as he wasn’t able to attend then, he is there now to pay his respects to his friend. Later on, Sam, Isaac, Alberta, Pete (Richie Moriarty) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) are at the tv room watching the photo montage that Sam, had made for her husband and that he seems to be enjoying despite what everyone else might think. Said gesture gets Pete emotional as he recalls his relationship with Donna (Allegra Edwards) with whom he had to break up when he discovered that she had murdered her husband making the others to ask him how she reacted to the break up to what Pete confesses that he didn’t exactly call the relationship off and he assumes that by now, she must have understood that they are no longer together. Sam tells Jay about it and he encourages his ghost friend to be decent and talk to her. Later that night, Pinkus, Abby, Sam, Jay and the ghosts are listening to the guest tell the story of how Trevor had given him his pants and how he considers that the garment was of luck for him since when checking the pockets he found a piece of paper with a number of some Lori Goldstein written on it; Pinkus decided to call her and let her know what had happened to Trevor and that was just the beginning to a good love story since she eventually became his wife. Trevor recalls how he had dated her for a couple of weeks prior to his death which put a dramatic end to it. When asked about Lori, Pinkus confesses that unfortunately she had passed away a while ago. After a while, Abby excuses herself of the room asking her father to meet with her in the morning to go hiking to what he agrees. Once she leaves, Pinkus takes the opportunity to say that on her dead bed, Lori confessed that Abby was actually Trevor’s daughter leaving the ghost in complete shock.
Pete goes to see Donna to tell her that he wants to break up with her given that he now knows what she did to her husband but, she denies it all, much to his surprise; she says that as there were no other suspects the police decided to put the blame on her making her flee the country and since she and her husband Gerald had disguised as farmers for Halloween, they thought that she had used the pitchfork to kill him. Donna sounds so certain of her innocence that she manages to convince Pete of it so he embarks on a journey to discover who framed her and why. Pete goes back to Donna’s old neighborhood and meets with the ghost next door; a man named Richard (Kyle Gatehouse) who’s carrying a Walkman with him and claims to have been stuck on listening to the same song for the eternity. When Pete asks him about Donna’s incident, he says that he was able to see it all through the window but since he was already a ghost there was not much he could do to help Gerald. Pete goes back to the mansion disappointed at being lied once again by Donna.
Sam delivers breakfast to Abby while being followed by Trevor, Alberta and Sas; Trevor is surprised that his – new found daughter – even likes the same food as his. He wants to know everything about her and asks for Sam’s assistance with it. At first, Abby answers to every question she throws at her but eventually she finds it to be some sort of intrusive to being asked about everything in her life. Pinkus joins them saying he is ready for hiking and while Abby goes to get her jacket, Sam asks him when is he going to tell her the truth about her biological father to what Pinkus says that maybe some other day since he is not ready for it something that doesn’t sit well with Trevor who begs for Sam’ intervention but she refuses to help as she believes that this is not on her to decide. Sometime after, knowing that he won’t get any help from Sam, Trevor decides to take her phone and text Pinkus to ask him about when he will deliver the news to his daughter but instead, he sends the message to Abby who immediately comes running down the stairs at the same time that Sam enters the room and confronts her. Pinkus joins them too and is left with no choice but to confess the truth making Abby to disappears in anger. Pinkus goes after her but she refuses to talk to him; Trevor apologizes to Sam for what he did and now they are on a mission to figure out how to fix what they broke. Sas suggests that maybe if they make a photo montage just like Sam did for Jay, that would remind them of how much they love each other.
Pete tells Sam and the others that he found Richard, a ghost that was able to confirm the whole murder story about Donna. Sam tells the news to Jay and he begins to ask some questions that eventually lead to the discovery that Richard might have been alive when the murder happened so he probably lied to Pete. Pete goes back to see Richard and confronts him making him to confess the whole truth about how his wife Linda (Ann MacDonald) was the one who murdered Gerald just because he was an annoying neighbor that would always steal their parking space outside their house but since he loved her so much, he decided to help her to frame Donna and bury Gerald under their fountain.
Trevor sends the photo montage to Abby making her realize how much her father loves her; she goes in search of Pinkus and tells him that she understands his reasons for not telling her about Trevor before and they make up. Sam finds a moment to talk to Abby and apologizes to her for had meddled in their family affairs. The woman forgives her and expresses how sorry she is that she didn’t get to know Trevor better. Encouraged by the ghost, Sam says that she had learned a few things about him at his memorial service so she can ask her anything she wants and soon, they engage in a conversation where Abby learns more and more about her biological father.
The next day, Isaac, Sas, Pete and Sam are watching the news in which it is announced that Gerald’s body was found at Linda’s property and she had been found guilty of his murdered. His brief journey as a murder investigator had sparked an idea on Pete suggesting that he and Sam could partner up to solve some crimes but she refuses. Sas and Isaac believe that she is just being selfish by declining on such a big opportunity to bring peace to others but when she says that if she takes on that mission, she won’t be able to help them around the house or to be available for what they need, they all change their minds quickly.
