Ghosts – Sad Farnsby
By: Gladys Luna
Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) and Mark (Tristan D. Lalla) – along with their team – are waiting for the clock to hit 8am so they can continue with the restaurant construction and to avoid that Jay’s neighbor, Henry Farnsby (Mark Linn-Baker) report them for making noise before the time that is stipulated by the town council. The man is content knowing that they have respected the rules and leaves with the promise to come back before 4pm to make sure they have stopped the works. Recently, Mr. Farnsby has turned into a kind of a headache for them and haven’t found the way to come to an understanding with him. At the mansion, Sam (Rose McIver) is welcoming a couple (Justyna Bania and Daniel Chung) that plans to stay there for a few days and have shown their interest in using the place as their wedding venue. Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) are there to trying to get ahead of Sam’s speech as they are certain she always uses the same one. Once the couple has left to their room, Jay shows up complaining about Mr. Farnsby and his annoying behavior and Hetty suggests that maybe Sam should invite his wife Margaret (Kathryn Greenwood) over and try to find a solution through her. Right that moment, Trevor (Asher Grodman) walks in announcing that a huge Amazon box has been delivered and Sam lets Isaac know that it must be the gift she had got him and Nigel for his wedding and that, at that time, it was back ordered. Isaac cannot contain his excitement when finding out that Sam had got them a dinosaur bed and is so happy for it that doesn’t even care for Hetty’s mocking comments for getting a bed made for children.
Later on, Sam welcomes Margaret in the mansion but their conversation isn’t exactly going in the way it was expected as Ms. Farnsby doesn’t appear to be a very talkative person. Sas (Román Zaragoza), Thor (Devan Chandler Long), Hetty and Pete (Richie Moriarty) are there feeling sorry for the lame interaction the two women have had so far until, Pete suggests Sam to talk about books and when she does, it turns out that both of them have read the same one although they have gotten a whole different message out it as Margaret believes it talks merely about flowers while Sam expresses that to her, it was more like a metaphor about a woman who has been neglected by her husband something that rings a bell on the other woman’s head as she assures her that lately, that’s how Mr. Farnsby has been treating her which leads her to take a radical decision for her marriage. She thanks Sam for opening her eyes and leaves the place saying that she needs to have a serious conversation with her husband.
In the meantime, Jay is attempting to assemble Isaac’s bed but doesn’t seem to get it right; Alberta and Trevor have noticed that he has missed a step and know that it might take a while before he realizes of it. All of a sudden, Nigel (John Hartman) shows up to confirm the rumors about their wedding gift and considers that since it was for the both of them it should be taken to a neutral space so they can share it but Isaac refuses saying that he didn’t even like dinosaurs so there is no point in sharing a gift that only one of them would enjoy, a comment that makes Nigel to leave the room in anger.
That same night, Mr. Farnsby appears at the mansion door asking them to book him a room since his wife had asked him to leave the house and decided to break their marriage. Still confused about the reasons why she had kicked him out, Mr. Farnsby has managed to find himself a place at the mansion living room where he tries to entertain the soon to be wedded couple with sad songs and his whine. Sam and Jay are in the kitchen completely unaware of the show that their neighbor had put up until Sas gets there and ask for their help to stop the man from scaring the other guests. They follow the ghost to the other room and try to talk with Mr. Farnsby but he is so consumed by his grieve that only wants to keep playing his guitar and cry so, Sam suggests that maybe Jay can jam with him in his room and that is the only way the man agrees to leave. Isaac’s bed is finally ready but the captain does not seem to be enjoying it as he had expected then Trevor and Alberta make him realize that maybe even though it seemed like a win situation having been able to keep the bed for him, seeing the way it had made Nigel feel is what prevents him from enjoying his victory so, he makes the choice to ask Jay to move the bed to the shed so his ex-fiancé can use it too.
Jay and Mr. Farnsby use their love for music to bond something that brings some joy to the neighbor who is still wondering why his wife terminated their marriage. He excuses himself for a moment to use the bathroom and then, Mark walks in informing Jay that their workers have installed the wrong pipeline and although they have incurred into a construction violation, they have found a temporary solution so the town council do not close down the works. Before he could say anything, Mr. Farnsby comes out of the bathroom claiming that he heard everything but since they are now “jam bros”, he won’t say a thing about it. Isaac pays a visit to Nigel at the shed to see how he’s enjoying the dinosaur bed and finds out that he had regifted the bed to Baxter (Steven Yaffee) and his wife since he considers it to be a poor replica of a real dinosaur. When Isaac hears Nigel enlists a lot of facts about these creatures, he understands the man has been well informed which make the lieutenant to confess that he had learned a lot about his favorite topic just so he can have something to talk about with him, and had planned to give him that as a wedding present.
At night, Margaret shows up carrying Mr. Farnsby belongings but before she could leave, the man hears her and comes running down the stairs asking for another chance. It is there when she confesses that Sam had opened her eyes and it was what made her decide to break their marriage. When hearing this, Mr. Farnsby gets so mad that promises that first thing in the morning, he will go to the town council and report Jay for the construction violations he has committed. Sam and Jay panic at the thought that they cannot do the repairs before morning so, Sas suggests that maybe they can focus on fixing Margaret and Mr. Farnsby relationship instead hence, in order to learn why Margaret is so mad at her husband, Thor ask their neighbors’ ghost Bjorn (Christian Jadah) about it and he confirms that Mr. Farnsby had forgotten their anniversary. Isaac goes to find Nigel and takes the opportunity to apologize to him for being selfish and inconsiderate towards his feelings and asks him to be his friend to what the other ghost agrees to.
Jay and Sam trick Mr. Farnsby and Margaret into meeting with them at their barn and once get there, they let Margaret know that her husband has prepared a full anniversary dinner for them. At first, the man seems to be confused at it but soon understands the plan and plays along with it. Margaret is so happy, that decides to forgive him as well as Mr. Farnsby tells Jay that he should not worry since he won’t be able to tell on him before the town council as he still is his “jam bro.” Things go back to normal – well, as normal as it can be at the mansion – so now, Sam and Jay are spending some time alone in their room meanwhile Isaac shows Trevor the dinosaur lamp that Sam got him to replace the dinosaur bed he gave away. He is excited to tell the other ghost that if he presses the button there, it changes colors and Trevor reminds him that they are not able to do that but, that appear to be no trouble since he has Sam for it. Now, the woman regrets to have gotten him that gift.
