Ghosts – The Not-So-Silent Partner
By: Gladys Luna
Sam (Rose McIver), Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Pete (Richie Moriarty), Flower (Sheila Carrasco) and Thor (Devan Chandler Long) are watching TV while talking about their heritage and ancestors. Hetty mentions that there is a chance that she might be related to the royalty and in order to confirm that, Sam decides to search on an ancestry website to track the woman’s family tree. Later on, Mark (Tristan D. Lalla), Sam and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) discuss about the final touches on the restaurant; Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and Trevor (Asher Grodman) are also there watching the whole scene. The only thing that is left to decide is the type of tile they will use. As on cue, the Amazon driver (Akeem Hoyte-Charles) gets in carrying a box that contains the tile sample they ordered. If all of them agree on it, they can move on and the restaurant will be ready in no time. Unfortunately, Isaac does not agree with the tile color so Sam is in charge to deliver his decision. Since this situation has been happening repeatedly, Mark gets tired that the “mystery investor” decisions keep holding the project back so he expresses his desire to meet this other investor or he is going to step back from this partnership with them.
Sam gets an email from the ancestry website to confirm whether or not Hetty is related to royalty. Pete, Flower and Trevor are there to hear the news as well but, sadly for her, the results confirm that she is in fact Irish – something that does not sit well with her since she used to spend most of her time while she was alive mocking of the Irish culture. Sam, Jay, Isaac, Thor, Alberta and Trevor gather in the kitchen to discuss about the choices they have in order to prevent Mark from withdrawing his partnership so they come up with all crazy ideas that include hiring Jason Momoa to pretend he is the mystery investor. However, Thor suggests that maybe they should give it a call to Kelsey (Jessie Ennis), a con woman who once pretended to be Sam’s cousin and attempted to steal the mansion from her so, given they couldn’t come up with anything better, Sam decides to call her.
Soon Kelsey shows up at the Woodstone Mansion door wearing an orthopedic collar surprising everyone in the room but they begin to understand that this is just part of a con she is playing on State Farm so they decide to let it pass. Sam and Jay explain her the whole plan and the reason why they need her to pretend to be the other investor and she decides to charge them a thousand dollars for the job but the only thing Jay has in his wallet is a Chipotle card and seven dollars which Kelsey gladly accepts. A bit later Jay, Sam, Kelsey and Mark meet at the living room, but they are not alone since Isaac, Flower and Alberta are also there keeping them company. Kelsey comes up with all sort of different stories making Mark buying all of her lies; Jay has even created a fake website for her in case he wants to dig any further. Everything seems to be going as planned until Kelsey finds out that Mark appears to have more money than she initially thought so she decides to stay a bit longer and actually accept his offer to go see the work progress in the restaurant.
On the other hand, Hetty is still in a complete shock since she found out about her true heritage and complains to Thor, Trevor and Pete who try to make her feel better but nothing seems to help. Trevor and Pete mention that sometimes mistakes happen so Hetty decides to ask Sam to run another test on the website. That is until Thor stops her and confesses that since he became a ghost he has witnessed a lot of conversation from his ancestors and he assures her that the results are not wrong. This hurts Hetty who feels betrayed by Thor since she considered him her friend. After she leaves the room Pete asks Thor if there are other secrets they should know about. The Viking says yes but nothing else. Mark takes Kelsey to the restaurant and shows her all the progress they have done; seeing an opportunity to get more out of Mark, Kelsey proposes him to help her with some construction work at her property in Lake Como to what the contractor immediately agrees. Jay and Mark leave the place and Sam takes the chance to ask Kelsey to drop the act and leave too since her job has been accomplished. The woman accepts but waits for Mark outside the property pretending to be waiting for her limo while Pete, Thor and Alberta watch them. When the man shows up, she expresses her concerns on getting late to a very important investing meeting about a promising business that she ends up dragging Mark into making him to write her a big check. The ghosts run inside the house to tell Sam about what Kelsey has done to Mark and suggests her to tell him the truth so, with their assistance, she tells him that Kelsey was a con artist she hired to pretend to be their other investor when the real one is Jay’s father and since Jay is very proud to take money from him, she had to accept it behind his back. Jay arrives just in time to hear everything and plays along with his wife’s story. Mark gets mad saying that the reason why he invested on the restaurant was because of Jay’s vision and not to follow orders from a guy who thinks he can have a say just because he puts his money there which rings a bell on Isaac’s head so ultimately, Mark decides to withdraw his partnership.
In the meantime, Thor goes in search of Hetty to apologize for not telling her the truth sooner. He tells her that as his friend, all he wanted was to protect her and still wants to so, the woman understands his reasons and forgives him. Isaac searches for Sam and Jay to tell them that he has made the choice to take a step back as an investor. Although he will still allow them to use his money, he will no longer interfere with the decision making about it since he believes in Jay’s vision and Sam makes sure to tell everything to her husband. On another side of the house, Pete, Trevor and Thor try to help Hetty embrace her Irish culture telling her all about Colin Farrell and putting some music from Enya to her, something she seems to be enjoying a lot.
