Ghosts – The Primary Source
By: Gladys Luna
Sam (Rose McIver) and Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) are getting ready to have a zoom meeting with Sharon (Joy Osmanski), the editor of the book that Isaac had written but that had asked Sam to present under her name in order to be published. The meeting seems to go well until the editor mentions that she will send someone over to Sam’s house to confirm her primary sources something that puts both, Sam and Isaac upside down given that her source was the ghost himself. Outside the mansion, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock), Trevor (Asher Grodman), Thor (Devan Chandler Long) and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) witness how Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) has once again hidden from Sam in his car to eat Sonic without being bothered by her. The ghosts are impressed by his ability to make sure that his wife does not suspect a thing. When the guy is finally done with his meal and on his way back inside, he accidentally steps over a small snail and the ghosts are surprised when they realize that it didn’t suffer any harm so, they assume that it must be a ghost snail.
Back inside, Sam updates Jay about the meeting with the editor and together they try to find a solution but then, Isaac recalls that he had written a diary and hid it at Ticonderoga which is the place where he had surrender so, Sam, Jay and Pete (Richie Moriarty) – who appears to know the place well – go in search of the diary. Alberta, Trevor, Flower and Thor meet with Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) and Sas (Román Zaragoza) in the living room to show them the snail they found and they agree on adopting him as a pet and taking turns to take care of him although, they don’t trust in Thor who expresses that he will gladly pet the snail but at the same time, he finds it to be delicious. Trevor refuses to join them alleging that he doesn’t like pets so, he’s not interested on being part of their agreement. Hetty doesn’t waste any time and names the pet as “Escarghost” and just like that, the ghosts have found themselves a new pet.
In the other hand, Sam, Jay and Pete arrive to Ticonderoga; the place has turned into a touristic route and they take advantage of it to go and find the diary. Much to their surprise, the book is easy to be found but what is truly mesmerizing is the fact that the diary is mostly blank pages and the few things written on it are about the sandwiches Isaac used to eat. When they get back to the house, they read the diary out loud to Isaac whose memories do not match with what they are reading. Right that moment, Jay comes with the idea that maybe, they can take advantage of the blank pages and re write history using Isaac’s stories so they can have something that will support their book.
Later on, Hetty, Trevor, Flower and Alberta are waiting for Thor to return Escarghost so somebody else would take care of him but he shows up evidently embarrassed saying that he had lost the pet. As expected, all of the others blame him and accuse him of having eating the snail but he keeps denying it until Trevor confesses that he loves pets and out of the fear that the Viking would eat Escarghost, he stole it from him and based on the fact that no one has noticed that it was lost, he believes he is the only one who will should be in charge of the snail. A new day arrives and with it, the authenticator (Hayden Finkelshtain) who, in order to perform his job, is wearing a dusty old robe. He gets inside the mansion without anyone noticing him and is mistaken with the crowd of basement ghosts that have gathered in the kitchen to hear about Isaac’s story, something that allows him to hear when Sam confesses that they had forged the captain’s story because they had lost their primary source. As it was expected, Sam gets a call from Sharon to tell her that she had risk a lot for their story but since she had lied to her, the book will not be published. Sam lies again to her face saying that she had the documents to prove it but lost them in a flood and then, when everything seems to have gone to waste, Sas comes up with an idea that gives them another chance to publish the book. Sam goes to inform Isaac that the only way his book will see the light is if they turn it into a fictional story where he gets to be a vampire. At first, he does not seem convinced of doing it but then, Jay works his magic on him and he agrees.
Trevor is at his room watching the snail when Alberta and Hetty walk in and ask him about his earlier reaction towards Escarghost. He confesses that he used to have a dog named Bucky that loved him more than anything and he felt that by dying, he had let him down so, he tries practicing to apologize to the snail as if it was his own dog and when he does, a light surrounds him making him believe that he is about to be sucked in but they realize that the one who has found closure is actually the snail. Escarghost makes his way to heaven but since he is very slow, it’s taking him forever to the point that now everyone have gone, including Trevor who apologizes for not being there while he ascends to the light.
