Ghosts – Thorapy 2: Abandonment Issues
By: Gladys Luna
Sam (Rose McIver) and Bela (Punam Patel) are chatting about the reasons why she was fired from the cat café she was working at while Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), Sas (Román Zaragoza), Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) and Flower (Sheila Carrasco) are there too listening to them. Suddenly, they hear Thor (Devan Chandler Long) scream making the lights flicker and Flower explains that he always starts acting out when the anniversary of when he was abandoned by his shipmates is just around the corner. Isaac mentions that the Viking gets always so mad and irritable that once he chopped the captain’s hand in a gust of rage. Right that moment, the Viking shows up complaining about the stairs; Sam tries to sympathize with him saying that she was also abandoned once but Thor considers that to be left for a few hours at a store does not compare with his experience. By seeing that nothing appears to calm him down, she decides that the only way to help him is by going to therapy. Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) is cooking some of his recipes and Pete (Richie Moriarty) is standing next to him to enjoy the smell of the food. There, is also Sam who is busy writing her fiction novel based on Isaac’s story while Bela, Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and Sas watch her. Suddenly, Jay is notified that the manager he had hired for his restaurant had taken another job and now he has to find someone else to fill that position and since Bela is unemployed, she offers him to give him a hand but unfortunately and based on her proven record of failed jobs Jay is not so sure that it would be a good idea but Sam convinces him to let her help him and he ends up agreeing to it.
Sam finds a good therapist, Dr. Park (Eddie Shin) that could help Thor to solve his abandonment issues so, Sam tells Thor story as if it was hers making a little adjustments to it but it seems that all the Viking wants is to get revenge for being left behind. After a while, Thor resolves that the only way he can get some closure is to travel to his old village in Norway and ask the other ghosts there about what actually happened. At night, Sas enters Jay’s head and realizes that he is dreaming of being a pilot who is about to crash because his sister forgot to fill the gas tank which makes Sas realize that he is projecting his lack of trust on Bela in the dream. Jay asks his friend to keep a close eye on his sister and let him know if she messes up in her new tasks as the restaurant manager. The next morning, Thor is still mad trying to convince Sam to travel to Norway and help him but given that she is swamped with work that is not something feasible for her at the moment. Isaac suggests that maybe Pete can go there since he is the only ghost able to leave the property but he refuses given that Thor’s village is too far and he might be at risk of disappearing. Right that moment, Jay shows up saying that Thor has fried his laptop during one of his tantrums and he has lost all of his recipes. Thor takes the opportunity to blame on Sam for not wanting to help him and Pete decides to take the chance and going to the Viking’s village.
Thor goes to visit his Viking neighbor Bjorn (Christian Jadah) to let him know that Pete is going to their old village in Norway to help him figure out why his shipmates abandoned him but the other ghost tells him that they have moved the village so there’s a chance that Pete won’t find anyone there. Thor runs to Sam and lets her know about the news and she comes up with the idea that she will send a message to Pete to let him know that he was sent to the wrong place and lucky for them, he gets it and changes his way.
Bela is very busy ordering some shrimp for the restaurant per Jay’s request; Trevor, Alberta and Sas watch her expecting for her to mess up at any minute and all of a sudden, they realize that the woman has ordered less food than she was requested to so, Trevor tries to help her ordering the rest for her and asking Sas to keep the secret from Jay so he won’t fire her. Later that day, Jay confronts his sister since he has received twice the number of shrimps that he had asked and Bela tries to explain that the place he had recommended to order from, was too expensive so she reached out to a friend that sells for a cheaper price but decided to order a sample from the expensive vendor just so Jay could see the difference and the ghosts realized that their intervention had backfired. Jay does not believe a word Bela is saying and fires her making her leave in disappointment. Sas and Alberta call for Sam and explain what they did so she could tell Jay and once he finds out the truth, he feels terrible for not having believed his sister. Pete finally arrives to Thor’s village and meets his friend Gorm (Paul Wight), who tells him what truly happened. Having accomplished his mission Pete wants to take the ferry back to the airport but the Viking tells him that since they are celebrating a national holiday there will be no ferry available until the next day at 8am and just as he suspected, one of his arms start to disappear.
A new morning has come and Thor is worried sick that neither Pete or Samantha have come back yet. Right then, Sam walks in saying that she had waited for Pete at the airport but he never showed up. The Viking starts to feel terrible just by thinking that he might have disappear but then, Pete’s torso comes through the door crawling until he becomes whole again. Thor is happy to see him but also desperate to know what he found out about his past and Pete tells him that unfortunately, the reason why he was left behind was just because his shipmates had miscounted and although they realized about that eventually, they were already half way across the Atlantic so despite of how embarrassed and sad they felt, they decided to move forward without him. Thor gets very sad and decides to isolate himself in order to process the news.
Bela is at her room packing all of her stuff and ready to leave when Jay walks in and apologizes for how he had threated her. He lets her know what the ghosts did for her and ends up offering her the job back to what she agrees to. Sam, Sas, Hetty and Pete go to check on Thor who is now in the company of Flower and looking pensive; they try to convince him that it could have gone worse for him but he surprises them by saying that in his attempt to figure out what happened in the past he almost lost a friend of his present and he appreciates that Pete had done much more than what his shipmates did for him so, he gives him a big hug and thanks him for looking after him. Flower joins them in the hug and suggests that maybe they can have a threesome. Seeing that Thor had overcome his traumas, the other ghosts ask Sam to call Dr. Park and do for them what she did for Thor, something that might require for her to see him multiple times a week.
