Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) A fierce vibe.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Paramore, Stand Atlantic, Blackbear and Halsey just to name a few.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Remedy.”

A) “Remedy” is about an on again, off again relationship I was in. Even though I knew the situation was toxic, I didn’t have the strength to turn my back on someone I cared for. I had so many people telling me to walk away and I couldn’t bring myself to do it at the time. It wasn’t until I had hit my breaking point with the situation that I then decided to leave.

Q) How did you come to connect with Whitney Peyton to appear on it?

A) Whitney is one of my best friends and she’s also my band mate in our duo called Keyed Up. I met Whitney a year ago when the pop/trap band I was a part of went on tour with her. Once that band folded, Keyed Up was then formed shortly after. I knew I wanted Whitney to appear on this track just as I also appear on her track “Enemy.”

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Many of us have become comfortable in toxic situations. We stay because we’re scared to leave in fear that we’ll be alone. It’s human nature to depend on someone and when we lose that sense of stability we fall off. Whether with a family member or loved one, I feel like many of my fans can relate to a similar situation.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I normally start with an instrumental of some sort. More recently I started writing over random beats or splice loops. I then bring it to my producer with the vocal ideas and melodies. He strips the beat and creates one around my vocals and melody patterns. One track I just recently worked on started from scratch. I only knew what I wanted as the hook. We wrote drums first and I wrote over the drum pattern.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) A huge hand. I’m either in the studio creating right along with my producer or I’m in my home studio creating. I make sure I’m always involved in the production.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Gina Fritz performance?

A) As of now I’m not sure if I’ll be performing live with these songs. What they can expect though is live performances from my duo Keyed Up. Along with my new solo songs, there’s also new material currently being made for Keyed Up that we can’t wait for our fans to hear.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Quite possibly an EP.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Hometown shows are always the best. There’s something special about being on tour and then coming back to your hometown. There’s a different energy.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’ve done a few features and right now my collaboration partner is Whitney Peyton. The reason Keyed Up came together so easily is because of how well we collaborate with each other. In the future I’d love to have the opportunity to collaborate with artists like Halsey, Post Malone, Pvris, Stand Atlantic, Jeremy McKinnon or Craig Owens. It’s a pretty hefty list but each of these artists hold a special place for me and to have that opportunity would be insane.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) The new Justin Bieber album is incredible. Every single song on there is a vibe in my opinion. Also, I’ve been listening to Doja Cat on repeat. As for a band, Stand Atlantic is my top pick.

Q) What is it about the color purple that makes it so special to you?

A) When I first decided to dye my hair purple it was purely because I needed a change. I was going through a hard time and I felt like I needed to hit the reset button on my life. Now that I’ve had it for close to three years, I can’t picture myself without it. Fans have come to shows with purple hair simply because they want to match and I think that’s something so special that I get to share with them. The actual meaning of the color purple is independence and creativity so I think I chose the right color.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Even though playing shows and touring is important, there could be people who aren’t at those shows who could still be a fan of your music. Social media allows us to reach a wider audience versus just certain places. I always try to be on social media as much as possible. I keep fans of myself and Keyed Up informed on what we’re doing whether it’s through a post, a livestream or a simple tweet.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’ve been at this for a while and the fact that so many of you are still behind me blows my mind sometimes. There are some days I have where it’s harder for me to wake up than others and on those days, I go through all the messages you guys send me showing your love and support and it helps me realize why I’m doing this. I love you guys so much and I can’t wait for you to all hear what I’ve been working on. Most importantly, what I wanna say is to not be afraid of making your own path in life. Don’t follow in someone else’s footsteps. Make your own imprints on your life and don’t get discouraged. It comes with the process but you’ll get through it.
