Gutrectomy – Shard Throat

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) If we had to describe the sound, we would say: angry, straight forward, aggressive and uncompromising. We always try to reinvent ourselves and integrate new influences into the music, but without losing our roots. And, very important, we don’t take ourselves too seriously, which is why memes always make their way into our songs. BASS DROPS!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) We play a good mix of Slam, Beatdown, Deathcore and some other influences of every band member, but we’re trying to create our own sound. If we had to name a few bands, it would probably be bands like OG Suicide Silence, Ingested and Bodysnatcher.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Shard Throat.”

A) The song is about inner fears, depression and the inner demons that often get in the way of things that should be taken for granted. A limitation in all ways and directions.

Q) What kind of fan response have you been receiving to the track – especially when you play it live?

A) So far we have only received positive feedback. The bass drop towards the end is particularly highlighted because it is THAT extreme. Since the song is intended to encourage people to dance, as it has a lot of groove, people really enjoy dancing to it. We are more than satisfied.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) Actually, not at all. The video footage was taken at the Dortmund Deathfest and on the tour we played with No Face No Case. We found that the live video material for the song was appropriate to underline the song, as it is very danceable and allows you to move around a lot, which has also been confirmed.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Since we all live relatively far away from each other, we have always written songs in remote sessions. Usually Louis [Weber] (bass guitar) comes up with an idea and a structure for a song, which we then work out and finalize together. The lyrics are written afterwards on the almost finished song and adjusted until everything is perfect, musically and lyrically.

Q) With the success of “Shard Throat,” will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) We will see my friend [winks]

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Our favorite place to play is the Backstage Club in Munich, Germany. The atmosphere, the sound, the people and the location are always impressive. We always have a very good time there. We also love playing at the Deathfeast Open Air. Since we have all been visitors to the festival ourselves for years, it is always like a small family reunion.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) There really isn’t anyone special. The ideas for a collaboration usually only come after the song has been written. We usually find out very quickly who would fit a part perfectly. Blake Mullens (Disembodied Tyrant) or Bryan Garris (Knocked Loose) would be nice candidates we would love to have on a record, though.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Peeling Flesh because they have the fucking groove and are just consistently heavy in every way.

No Face No Case because the guys are just one big party, fun and have unhealthy heavy beatdown parts.

OG Suicide Silence because in our opinion The Cleansing is still one of the heaviest albums ever

released.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you very much for the great feedback over the last few months! We can’t wait to see you in front of the stage again and tear down the locations. Otherwise, feel free to listen to our latest album, leave us a comment on Instagram or Facebook and tell us what you like or don’t like. 👌‍
