Interviews
Hannah Trigwell – I Could Be The One
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would say it is acoustic pop. Guitar-driven and emotional. [laughs]
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I love the drumming of Phil Collins’, Missy Higgins vocally and the electric guitars of Kings Of Leon and Coldplay. The electro elements of Ellie Goulding’s tunes. It’s quite a mix!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new Captive song “I Could Be The One.”
A) I wrote the lyrics about wanting someone to be dependent on you, almost as if you were the addiction. The lyric video feels really trippy so it worked well with the song concept. Captive is really talented so it was great to work on another tune together.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think the beat and the groove is great. It’s something I would definitely dance to in a club as it’s quite infectious. Maybe people are latching onto the lyrics too (I hope!) because they are a little bit sinister.
Q) How did you and Captive connect to work together on the song?
A) I’d worked on a remix with Captive on my previous single “Another Beautiful Mistake” and he had this instrumental that I loved. I wrote the top-line, recorded the vocals and sent them back to him. Thankfully, he liked them so we ran with it!
Q) What did you take away from your experience in collaborating with them?
A) I always love writing to an instrumental. This was a great experience because we worked together on both the arrangement and a few key words. So, it felt like we had really crafted the song together.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) In my own music I have quite a hand, but I am not the hand. [laughs] I’ve been lucky enough to work with Ben Matravers on my upcoming album who always takes what I want (sound and production wise) into the final product and I’m there most days at the moment working on getting everything just right.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Hannah Trigwell performance?
A) Electric guitar loops, chuggy acoustic guitar, emotional vocals, stripped songs followed by upbeat fuller ones – a bit of everything really. And some top banter.
Q) Can fans expect an EP or full album from you in the near future?
A) Debut album RED is due to be released early 2018.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I love performing in my hometown of Leeds. It’s great to be able to have friends and family at a gig. Amsterdam is one of my favorite places to play. There’s always a great vibe there!
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Phil Collins!! Come on Phil, let’s make it happen. Lewis Capaldi has an epic voice, too. collaboration with him would be amazing.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) I’m really into Lewis Capaldi’s voice and MNEK’s tunes always make me move. I like music that is heart-wrenching or has a beat that makes me want to dance. Or both!
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Social media has helped me connect with people who otherwise would have never heard my music. So, it’s really important to me as an independent and growing artist! It also helps with things like touring because I can gage where the demand is and perform in places I had dreamt of visiting.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you for supporting me! And I’m really hoping everyone will enjoy the album when it comes out – preorder is available now by visiting http://smarturl.it/RedAlbumPreorder!!
