Heffron Drive – Rain Don’t Come
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) You’ve talked about taking more risks with your music, how does “Rain Don’t Come” fit with that?
A) “Rain Don’t Come” is really different than anything we’ve done before. It has a different vibe, beat and feel than our other music has had so far. We are always exploring new sounds as a band and we like to show our fans how we’ve grown as artists. We want to continue with that trend of taking risks!
Q) Besides “Rain Don’t Come,” will you be previewing anymore upcoming songs? Will there be/is there another album in the works?
A) We plan to surprise fans with more music, but we are keeping it a secret as to when we will release it! It could be next month, next year or it could be tomorrow…We like to drop little surprises for fans to find, like last week we released the video for “Memories and Melodies” on our YouTube channel without announcing it to see how long it took fans to find it! We will probably do things like that again. *wink*
Q) How much hand in the production of “Rain Don’t Come” did you have?
A) I’ve really gotten into the production side of music in the last year. It’s a side of music that blends the technical side of music with the creative side, too. I have a hand in the production of all of Heffron Drive’s songs.
Q) Since you have previewed the song at some concerts, what kind of fan reactions have you been getting? What about the song has resonated with fans?
A) We premiered the song live in Italy and fan response was so overwhelming we knew we had to release it as a single. Our fans really guide us to let us know if we should push on in a certain direction and we listen to that. For everyone music is different. What resonates with one fan can be a totally different experience for another. Music is really intimate and personal in that way. I’ve heard fans say everything from feeling that the song spoke to them about a hard time they were going through to all the way to feeling that it made them feel energized or hopeful. There’s not a wrong way to interpret music it’s all beautiful.
Q) Can you talk about the progression and evolution of your sound, what/who are some of your biggest influences?
A) Heffron Drive has its roots in a lot of different sounds. There is a rock influence, a dance influence, a country influence and more. We hear sounds we like and try to incorporate that feeling into a song. As Dustin and I evolve as people our sound evolves, too. I always say “Love this exact moment because there will never be another one like it,” and I believe that is true for an artist’s music. A song captures a feeling an artist has. A song is like a moment. You’re only in it once!
Q) Is there anything you can tease or share about the concept for the “Rain Don’t Come” video and how it fits with the message/inspiration behind the song?
A) “Rain Don’t Come,” for us, was really about using the visual of wandering the desert as a metaphor for really searching for something, but feeling the vastness or emptiness of not finding it. I think it really speaks to the way a lot of us are feeling right now, how we’re all searching.
Q) You’re a part of social media, how has that platform been an asset for your music and promotion?
A) Snapchat has been the biggest new thing for us this year. It’s extremely fun to use, I love it! Our fans seem to really like it, too!
Q) Is there anything else about your music you want to make sure to tell fans about?
A) Everything I do is for you. <3
