How to Get Away With Murder -It’s War

We begin the episode with a confession. Nate (Billy Brown) admits that he was at Annalise’s home the night of the fire. We then flashback to Nate talking to Wes (Alfred Enoch). “She’s not who people make her out to be,” Wes explains. “Of course she is,” Nate retorts. Wes goes on to explain that Annalise (Viola Davis) is who they have made her into as, “I’ve done awful things to her.” What did you do exactly Wes?

Annalise has reconvened with the Keating Four and has not gotten such a warm reception. Laurel (Karla Souza) is not thrilled at having Annalise around and snaps that Annalise is acting “victim-y.” Meanwhile, Connor (Jack Falahee) is still stuck on finding Annalise’s phone information on Oliver’s computer. Connor wants him to crack into the files so he can find out if Annalise had anything to do with Wes’ murder. Oliver (Conrad Ricamora) is skeptical, but caves lamenting, “Hopefully there is a Nate peen pic on here.”

Frank (Charlie Weber) meets with Bonnie (Liza Weil) to discuss his case. He professes his innocence saying that Wes wasn’t at Annalise’s home when he was there. We cut to Annalise who rips off an epic email to ADA Atwood (Milauna Jackson) defending herself and putting her rival in her place. Annalise also warns, “Find that body. Otherwise it won’t just be a threat.” Atwood doesn’t receive the email fondly. She remarks, “There are bodies piling up around this woman and you think she deserves justice?”

Back with the Keating Four, Asher (Matt McGorry) is defending Annalise to his cohorts. “I will go Red Wedding on anyone who rats on Annalise,” he snarks. If you aren’t a “Game of Thrones” fan, just know it could get gory. Annalise meets with Michaela (Aja Naomi King) to express her gratitude for keeping the law students together. “Everyone is fine. Because like you said, I’ve been cleaning up all your mess while you’re in jail,” Michaela remarks. So true!

Nate is not happy with Annalise for sending Atwood that email. “Stop trying to help me. It only makes things worse,” he remarks. Ain’t that the truth! Annalise appears to be trying to mend things with each of her students or at least is trying to get an update on where she stands with each of them.

We check in with Laurel who has a man living her home. When Michaela questions her about the gentleman Laurel explains it was a private investigator. Cute little Asher asks, “Like Veronica Mars?” Yep. When Annalise learns of Laurel’s activities she mega pissed. She reminds Laurel that her life is a cautionary tale noting, “These people will set you up! I was pregnant eight months and they murdered my baby!” Sad, but true. Laurel doesn’t take these words lightly and snaps back, “Wes deserves so much better than you.”

Asher is trying to get Michaela to give Annalise a break. “She’s a human being. She at least deserves our sympathy,” he says. “Hmph,” is all Michaela retorts. Meanwhile, Bonnie meets with Laurel to show some “concern.” She tells Laurel that she understands what she is feeling right now and that if she doesn’t want to face the eyes of the public than she could “make you an appointment, if you make a decision that you’re worried people will judge you for.” Smooth.

While Bonnie is talking to Laurel the phone rings and it is Frank calling from prison. He is looking for Bonnie, but Annalise pretends to be her (either that or he figures out it is Annalise and goes along). He offers to lend a hand in his defense.

The DA’s office calls because a story has been released to the media about Annalise’s email. “If you continue to spread these theories about the DA’s office I will order them to go for life in prison on your case,” Annalise is warned. Oops. Actually, it seems that Annalise technically didn’t release the email, but she’d asked Oliver to do it. Suddenly, Annalise realizes that the law school dean who has been buddying up to her has been ratting on her. The dean tries to explain it away as the DA’s office was willing to give her custody of her kids for going along with a sting. Okay girl, you tried it. But you failed.

Frank has his day in court to sever the cases and has proof that Nate (who was working for the DA’s office) had Wes’ body moved and outs that Atwood was actually having an affair with Nate! The court can clearly see collusion. Later, we watch Nate get into Annalise’s car where she admits that this “Nate moving the body thing” was her idea – and it worked!

Annalise meets with Laurel to break some bad news. It seems that Wes’ body has been cremated. Asher reminds us the theme of the season when he remarks, “You know why families get torn apart? Secrets.” Asher takes this as the right time to call out Connor for possibly being the other witness in Wes’ case. Connor thinks that Annalise was involved and so does Laurel, but Connor defends himself by outing that Oliver has a copy of Annalise’s phone. Oliver has looked through the files and he is not happy. He saw that when Connor wasn’t with Thomas when he said he was. It seems that Connor used Thomas’ phone to check his voice mail and then left. “You used his phone to check your voicemail. You went to Annalise’s house, didn’t you,” Oliver asks shocked. We cut to a flashback of Connor at Annalise’s house the night of the fire and he is performing CPR on Wes.
