I Need Your Love
By: Gladys Luna
“I Need Your Love” is a comedy series that tells the story of Camille (Camille Trust), a rising singer living in New York City struggling to make a name for herself in the music industry. In the first two episodes the singer takes us through the difficulties and challenges in the way of accomplishing her dream as well as the exploration of the pivotal part that social media plays in the current era.
Throughout this series, we follow Camille as she walks us through different situations of her life allowing us to see that the path to success is not always a bed of roses. Going from the excitement of booking a new gig, the frustration of not being where she wants to be yet and questioning her own talent and skills, Camille finds herself swimming on a sea of opportunities that appear to be going in the wrong direction.
Trust makes use of her sense of humor and tremendous talent to take us on a step-by-step trip through the treacherous waters of an industry that is rapidly changing and hardly leaving some space to catch on. Her carefree spirit and eagerness to take her music to the next level puts her through the strangest experiences. One of my favorites scenes is the one where after having made the appearance of her life, she ends up back in the same spot she was in – sadly setting a good example of how ruthless the industry can be. One day it can be the best moment of your life and the next one, your back on square one.
Director Walker Kalan employs the external scenarios to reflect an ambiance in which Camille’s doubts, fears and emotions are reflected, granting us the permission of not missing one single thing. His understanding and empathy with Camille’s story are evident in the way every scene has been directed and written, making us feel as though he has experienced all of this alongside the artist. Plus, the complicity and trust between the director and the artist results into a very neat and respectful depiction of story.
“I Need Your Love” is a series that encompasses the battles and the dark aspects of paving our way to our dreams seen from a comical perspective that lightens the burden of what this truly means. This is surely a series that you’d want to watch all the way to the end and won’t regret it! Needless to say, I totally recommend it.
