iZombie – Dead Beat
By: Jamie Steinberg
Major (Robert Buckley) is now in custody thanks to the feds seemingly figuring out about the Chaos Killer. Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) is attempting to get him to spill his guts by saying “Brooding expressions don’t show up on tape. Use your words.” Thankfully, (not that we were worried Major would speak up) his attorney Brant Stone (guest star Ken Marino) shows up to block any police business.
We find Blaine (David Anders) back at the funeral home attempting to find some food. Liv (Rose McIver) is also there seeking some cuisine for Major so he doesn’t go full-zombie on his fellow inmates. With Don E. turning her down, she hopes that Ravi (Rahul Kohli) can convince Major to tell him where the frozen zombies are so they can reanimate them back to life and get him released. Thanks to some stealthy video game play conversation, Major secretly spills their location. Unfortunately, when Liv and Ravi begin opening freezer doors, they find no one inside.
Dale (Jessica Harmon) and Clive can’t figure out what the deal behind the Chaos Killing, but all they know that brains are involved. In fact, Clive can only conjure up with the concept of a “brain cult.” Sorry, close Clive, but no cigar. Dale gets interrupted by someone who has come forward to talk about some evidence in Major’s arrest. Kayla (the witness) claims to have seen someone transporting bodies from her bedroom window, which she shares was Major. Could this be the clue needed to unlock the case?
A starving Liv meets with Blaine who has brought her a sweet treat. Thankfully, she is able to get some brain matter needed to concentrate on helping to get Major released. How do they get Major some though? Major is begging for “the cure,” but Liv isn’t ready to give in because that would mean the end of his memory. How can you give up on your first love? Your soulmate? No. Liv has another idea. Sorry Peyton…Well, it seems like Brant Stone has a thing for Peyton (AJ Michalka) and that’s their leverage. Liv takes some leftovers and makes it into a nutritional bar. She has Peyton meet with Brant to butter him up to give Major the meal. Sadly, it will take a date (with a two drink minimum of course) to make it happen. Stone slides the bar over to Major as they meet with Clive to discuss the case. Unfortunately, it seems Stone was a bit peckish and ate the bar himself!
In a heartbreaking scene, Major says Liv has to make a choice whether to cure him or kill him because either way they are going to kill him. That’s not an option though. How do they save Major after all the hoops they have already jumped through? Drastic measures. Clive comes to Liv’s home to talk about Major, but he instead gets the surprise of his life. Liv finally lets him know the secret she’s been keeping and that zombies are real. Not believing a word she’s said, Liv has no choice to prove it. She grabs a knife, stabs herself and gives him the full undead experience. Trust me, that’s not the least of his worries.
