iZombie – Salivation Army
By: Jamie Steinberg
We pick up with Liv (Rose McIver) working in the morgue while Ravi (Rahul Kohli) goes out on a breakfast run. While giving her bagel options, we see a man come up behind Liv with a tranquilizer gun. Interrupting their conversation by taking out Liv, we find Ravi has returned. He runs into the bad guy who lies and says he is picking up a body for the funeral home. Once inside the doors though, Ravi sees something is wrong and runs outside where he takes down the body snatcher. Helping to revive Liv, she wakes in time to block the bad guy from tranquilizing Ravi. The two guys though get into a physical altercation, leaving Ravi to use all his might to fend him off.
At the police precinct, Dale (Jessica Harmon) is pissed! She doesn’t understand how Major (Robert Buckley) got released as she had a strong case against him. She suspects Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) had something to do with it and lets him know romantically and professionally they are done. We do though get to hear one of my favorite lines of the episode when Clive talks to Major before letting him walk, “Be like Private Ryan, earn this.”
Ravi has had a long day and is rehashing it all with Peyton (AJ Michalka). It is here Pevi (or is it Rayton) fans get their moment of zen when the former couple reunite for some serious smooching. Thank you writers! I believe it is here where we all come together to sing, “reunited and it feels so good!”
Meanwhile, Vaughn Du Clark (Steven Weber) is playing a raging bash to celebrate the sale and public release of Max Rager. He is showing the buyer who bought the rights to the drink around and in a meta moment, we get to find out that musician Rob Thomas is performing (thank you creator Rob Thomas). Hey, we all know this show is good for some laughs! Clive and Liv head over to get the layout of the event and do some investigating.
At the event, it seems some Max Rager scientists have discovered some leftover Utopium and decide to take it to celebrate. Bad. Idea. The minute they have taken it, their lives end and their zombie madness begins. Just as Clive and Liv are being escorted off the property, the security guards are attacked by the new zombies. Our dynamic duo escape, but the zombies head into the party and the festivities really begin! (Sorry singer Rob Thomas!)
Ravi and Blaine (David Anders) seek to help handle the situation as it seems Ravi is experienced in warfare thanks to his love of video game Call of Duty. Blaine balks at his help, but Ravi won’t hear it. We also see that under the event the unfrozen Chaos Killer bodies are being experimented on. And in an act of self sacrifice, we watch as Drake (Gregg Finley) volunteers to be the next victim in order to protect the others. As a police officer, we know he promised to protect and serve so RIP (again) Drake.
By now, things are VERY out of hand at the Max Rager party. Liv, Clive and now Major are attempting to take down as many zombies as they can. They know they need to shoot the zombies in the head, but there are only so many bullets in their guns. Liv is pushing Clive to let her scratch him to save his life, but he would rather go down in a blaze of living glory. The trio split up and Liv and Clive head into the party for more fight only to find the business buyer helping to handle the situation – she has bucks and brawn it seems.
Back under the party, we find the trio reunited and Gilda (Leanne Lapus) begins bargaining with Major to let her out and she’ll lend a hand in stopping things. Vaughn Du Clark arrives to protect his investment, earning a bullet to the arm. Still spouting his usual dubious drivel, Major won’t give in to the bastard. He does however help Vaughn feed his need for attention by sending some zombies his way.
