Interviews
Jamie Brewer – American Horror Story
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) at the end of the month (February), I’m going to be speaking at a Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida Conference in Orlando, Florida. Later on in this year, I’m going to be a fairy named Aurora in an animated film. It’s called Snow Moon: Cinderella Chronicles Saga and it is still in the pre-pre-production phase.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the conference?
A) I’m a huge advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they asked me to speak.
Q) We have seen you on “American Horror Story” throughout the years. Were you surprised by the length of time you were on the show?
A) Yes, and it has been a really great surprise! Every role has been interesting and challenging. I love hearing about and learning the personality traits of each character I portray.
Q) Was there anything about Marjorie that you added that was not scripted for you?
A) I have a nickname for Marjorie! It is the “demon doll with carpenter tools.” Plus some really unique, quirky things.
Q) This season you have starred in a lot of scenes with Neil Patrick Harris. What was it like working with him?
A) He is a phenomenal man! It was amazing! Working in scenes with him was incredible, as his ventriloquist doll and then in Episode 12 being killed by him!
Q) What have been your favorite moments from your time working on “American Horror Story” throughout the years?
A) There is a wide variety. With Season One (Murder House), there is a fight scene around the kitchen table with Jessica Lange. It was a strong, emotional scene. In Season Three (Coven), it was killing Patti Lupone’s character with bleach. In Season Four (Freak Show), there was a fight scene with Neil and then getting killed by him as well.
Q) Who would you have liked to have more scenes with throughout your time on the show?
A) I wish I could have worked more with Mare Winningham, Kathy Bates, Denis O’Hare, Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott, Eric Stonestreet, Frances Conroy and Angela Basset. There are much more!
Q) What have you taken away from your experience working on the show?
A) It’s amazing! It’s really incredible learning the craft and everything from legends who are still working in the business. I loved learning everything about the industry. Even learning about all the behind the camera stuff like production, writing, makeup and hair, editing and much more.
Q) We know you will be walking in Carrie Hammer’s “Role Models Not Runway Models” show. How did you get involved with the show?
A) Carrie Hammer contacted Katie Driscoll who has a project called “Changing The Face of Beauty.” Carrie told her that she was looking for an advocate/model with Down Syndrome to walk in her Spring Line show in New York. That’s how we all got connected. I am really grateful and honored to be a participant in this show and to be walking alongside others who are role models for women during New York Fashion Week.
Q) You are a part of social media. Do you enjoy interacting with the fans?
A) It’s absolutely incredible! My life has been changed so much because of it. I love the interaction with the fans and people who love the show.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of your work?
A) A huge thank you! Triple hugs! I don’t know how to thank you. Keep watching!
