Jamie Denbo – Come on Get Happy
Q. What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?
A. I have just completed a role in an independent film called “Love Shack.” It’s a mockumentary about the porn industry. I play a big dumb porn star’s agent. I also regularly appear on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson playing various characters in his comedy sketches. Oh, and another film I was in, “Blackballed: the Bobby Dukes Story” has just been released on DVD. It’s a comedy about the Paintball world starring Rob Corddry of The Daily Show.
Q. What can you tell us about the premise for the show “Happy Hour” and about your character?
A. “Happy Hour” is a giant singing competition to find America’s next pop star. I play one of the Judges. The Male British one. The makeup takes forever. Actually Happy Hour is a simple comedy about a group of friends in Chicago. Who drink. My character Tina is sort of a ball buster. You know how you have that group of guy friends and there’s that one awesome guy who everyone adores and always asks, “When’s he gonna get a girlfriend?” And then he finally does and everyone is excited to meet her and she turns out to be THAT chick? Tina is that chick. You’re always kind of hoping she will decide not to come out with the whole group, but she always does.
Q. What made you want to be a part of this show?
A. I’m flattered that you think I had mountains of offers to sift through before deciding to take this one. I wanted to be part of any show that would have me. Such is the life for a non-celebrity actor.
Q. Do you have a most memorable moment from your time filming?
A. Punching Henry.
Q. Why should viewers take the time to check out the show?
A. Because you will get to see a bunch of funny, relatable characters deal with life’s challenges. And at the end, someone gets a record deal.
Q. Critics haven’t been giving “Happy Hour” such wonderful reviews. Do you think that once the show starts airing it can turn them around?
A. “Two & Half Men” hasn’t gotten any high critical praise from anyone. I’m pretty sure it’s the number one comedy on TV. And I think you must be overlooking my mother’s Blog, and the Temple Shirat Hayam bulletin, because to my knowledge, they have given “Happy Hour” stellar reviews.
Q. What is it about your role on the show that you have found challenging?
A. Not intimidating my fellow actresses by looking so hot all the time.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. I perform and teach Improv comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. I also enjoy Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.
Q. Do you have a latest obsession? Are you into any particular book, music group, sport or activity?
A. I saw the documentary, “Word Play” about crossword puzzle players, and now I am obsessed with getting good at them. I bought a book of easy puzzles and I am very disappointed with my progress so far. I’m sticking with them though. Oh, and I am truly obsessed with “Project Runway.” But isn’t everyone?
Q. What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A. I am so thrilled to hear I have fans and supporters! Hey there fans and supporters! Are you sure you are supporting the right person? I’ll understand if you thought I was Elle Macpherson. It happens all the time. She’s running a few errands for me right now, when she gets back (hopefully WITH receipts this time) I will tell her you guys are her fan and you support her.
