Jane The Virgin – Chapter Eighty-Five

As we know from the last episode, Michael (Brett Dier) now remembers everything. Jane (Gina Rodriguez), who is working at the Marbella as he is checking out, sees him at the last second as Bo barks and it gets her attention. She sees him and instantly knows that he remembers. She chases him down, using a scooter, and then she runs after his bus. Sadly, she sees it leaving. It is then revealed, in the classic way, that as the bus passes Michael is standing there. He was going to leave, telling Jane it has been four years and he just wants her to be happy.

She calls Rafael (Justin Baldoni) to talk, but she can’t bear to tell him. Back at the Marbella we Petra (Yael Grobglas) is debating what to text J.R. (Rosario Dawson) back and asking Jane every second. She then goes down to find that her scheming mother, Magda (Priscilla Barnes), is trying to be a fortune teller pirate in the middle of the hotel.

Rogelio (Jaime Camil), Alba (Ivonne Coll) and Xo (Andrea Navedo) are getting ready for Xo’s last chemo treatment. Alba is getting “fake” love letters from Jorge (Alfonso DiLuca) so he can get his papers and she is starting to catch feelings.

Jane and Michael reminisce and he says he still loves her. She tells Rafael everything and he asks if they are still getting a divorce. She wants to say yes but doesn’t. He says that he just wants to put a ring on her finger.

Jane goes to her new BFF, Petra, to ask about what to do. She says that Michael is her past, Rafael is her future. They are drinking and at the end Jane finally sends the divorce papers and Petra sends a romantic text Jane wrote to J.R.

Jane then runs into Michael. In this moment she decides she shouldn’t have mailed the papers. She catches up to the mail man, but he won’t give her back the papers. She explains the whole story to him and he lets her take them.

Petra tells Rafael that Jane sent the divorce papers…but then Jane has to tell Rafael she got them back. J.R. agrees to see Petra. As Petra is leaving for their date, Magda handcuffs herself to her daughter. She says if she gives her ffity grand she will give her the key. Petra decides to bring Magda with her and confesses her feelings to J.R. in person. J.R. admits she has missed Petra every day. They kiss and get back together.

Alba waits to see Jorge. He says his sister helped him write those letters, but Alba says she felt in their hug that he still has feelings for her. She says you can’t just lose that love as it will always be deep down. This resonates with both Jane and Rafael.

At Mateo’s (Elias Jannsen) grandparent’s day, Xo and Mateo do a dance. Afterwards Xo passes out and goes to the hospital. She tells Rogelio she doesn’t want Mateo to remember her as a weak woman and that she doesn’t want to stop living her life to the best because what if the chemo doesn’t work. Rogelio shows her a video of Mateo talking about why he loved her and it definitely doesn’t paint her as weak.

Rafael realizes that before Jane was in love with him and Michael at the same time. He asks Jane if she loves Michael…She says she doesn’t know. He says waiting for her to choose Michael almost killed him and he can’t do it again. He asks her to leave. She realizes that as she walks out on Mateo and Rafael that loosing them is her worst nightmare.
